Abstract:
A magnetic toner comprising a binder resin having dispersed therein a magnetic powder is disclosed, wherein the magnetic toner has a volume average particle diameter (D.sub.50) of from 4 to 9 .mu.m, the magnetic powder has a number average particle diameter of from 0.15 to 0.25 .mu.m (hereinafter simply referred to as a particle diameter), a BET specific surface area of from 6 to 8 m.sup.2 /g, and a residual magnetization of from 7 to 10 emu/g, the magnetic powder is present in an amount of from 30 to 70% based on the total weight of the magnetic toner, and the magnetic toner has adhered to the surface thereof silica powder having been rendered hydrophobic. The magnetic toner exhibits superior performance in terms of image density, definition, dot and fine line reproducibility, and environmental stability.

A variable valve operating apparatus for an internal combustion engine includes a drive camshaft, and a driven cam lobe that is rotatably supported by the drive camshaft. The variable valve operating apparatus further includes a control sleeve that has a raceway surface, a center of which is eccentric with respect to a center of rotation of its own. The variable valve operating apparatus further includes a link mechanism that is connected to each of the drive camshaft and the driven cam lobe and has a control roller which is in contact with the raceway surface. The variable valve operating apparatus further includes an actuator that drives the control sleeve. The variable valve operating apparatus further includes a control amount of the actuator is controlled to change a moving amount of the raceway surface in the above described plane direction in accordance with an operation condition of an internal combustion engine.

A toner for use in the development of electrostatic latent images contains colored particles including at least a binder resin, a coloring agent and a releasing agent, and an external additive. An average circularity of the toner is 0.975 or more; a median of arithmetic average height distribution of the toner is 0.05 μm or more and not more than 0.12 μm; and a fluctuation of arithmetic average height is not more than 35. Preferably, a value of 90% accumulation of the arithmetic average height distribution of the toner is less than 0.15 μm; and a fluctuation of number average particle size and a fluctuation of circularity of the toner are not more than 25 and not more than 2.5, respectively. The electrostatic latent image developer contains the foregoing toner and a carrier, and the image forming method uses the foregoing toner or the foregoing developer.

A image formation process comprising the steps of forming an electrostatic latent image on an electrostatic latent image carrier, developing the electrostatic latent image with a developer to provide a toner image, transferring the toner image to a transfer material, and heat-fixing the toner image on the transfer material, wherein the developer comprises a toner for developing electrostatic latent images comprising a binder, a colorant, and 1 to 30% by weight of a lubricant which comprises a modified polyethylene wax which is obtained by homopolymerizing ethylene or copolymerizing ethylene and an .alpha.-olefin having 3 to 10 carbon atoms in the presence of a metallocene catalyst and modifying the resulting ethylene homo- or copolymer by grafting at least one grafting monomer selected from the group consisting of a styrene monomer and an unsaturated carboxylic acid monomer, and has a hexane extraction of not more than 65% by weight, and wherein the transfer step comprises bringing a bias roll into contact with the back side of a transfer material. The image formation process of the present invention requires less power consumption. The toner for use in the present invention provides a good releasability at low temperatures and shows excellent anti-offset properties and powder fluidity without causing the generation of ozone, image defects and blocking.
