Abstract:
A process is provided for protecting a primate host from a self-replicating infection by an immunodeficiency retrovirus. Protection is achieved by administering to the primate host a combination of a pharmaceutically effective amount of a nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor and a pharmaceutically effective amount of a nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitor prior to exposure to the immunodeficiency retrovirus. The administration is effective if provided in a single dose within 24 hours of the exposure. A regime of regular daily doses is also effective in providing protection against an immunodeficiency retrovirus becoming self-replicating after infecting a primate host A process for controlling retrovirus transmission within a population includes the administration to a subpopulation at high risk for contracting an immunodeficiency retroviral infection the detailed combination prior to sexual exposure to a source of immunodeficiency retrovirus so as to preclude the immunodeficiency retrovirus from becoming self-replicating in a member of the subpopulation.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to a unique heat transfer material for use in transferring a discontinuous coating onto a substrate, such as an article of clothing. The heat transfer material of the present invention may be used cold peel transfer processes, resulting in an image-bearing coating having superior crack resistance, washability, and breathability compared to conventional image-bearing coatings. Additionally, the materials may be used on dark colored fabrics without washed-out appearance typically associated with printing on darker fabrics. The heat transfer material of the present invention produces superior results due to the use of discontinuous coatings.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a halogen-free flame-retarded thermoplastic polyester moulding composition consisting of: (A) a polymer composition consisting of a (A-a) 30-67 mass % at least one thermoplastic polyester polymer and (A-b) 0-15 mass % other polymers, of which 0-0.3 mass % of a fluorine polymer, (B) a flame retardant system consisting of (B-a) 33-55 mass % melamine cyanurate, (B-b) 0 to less than 2 mass % of a phosphorous containing flame retardant not comprising elementary phosphorous and (B-c) 0-5 mass % of an inorganic flame retardant synergist not comprising phosphorous, and (C) 0-10 mass % other additives, of which 0-5 mass fibrous reinforcing agents. The invention also relates to a moulded part for use in electrical or electronic applications comprising said polyester composition.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein is an elastomeric article having a donning layer coating that increases the ease of donning such an article. The donning layer is a copolymer material made of monomers that are incompatible with one another. When the copolymer dries on the surface of the elastomeric article the incompatible monomers phase out into separate domains and provide the elastomeric article with a hard and textured surface.
Abstract:
A method for precisely applying a premetered amount of a composition into a textile substrate includes the steps of feeding a textile substrate into an application station, wherein the application station is desirably a reverse (indirect) rotogravure roll arrangement, applying a metered amount of a saturating solution to the textile substrate, while controlling the rate of speed of the substrate relative to the application station, monitoring the concentration of the solute in the textile substrate to assure a uniform level of saturation, desirably by use of an NIR evaluation, adjusting the application station to the extent necessary to assure uniform concentration of the solute on the textile substrate, and then drying the textile substrate.
Abstract:
An elastomeric glove that contains a hydrogel coating is provided. The present inventors have discovered that the hydrogel coating is capable of improving donning (damp and/or dry) and also imparting certain other benefits to a wearer of the glove. Specifically, the hydrogel coating includes an active agent that is retained within a crosslinked hydrogel network. When the hydrogel coating is exposed to an aqueous environment, it swells, allowing the active agent to diffuse through pores and contact the skin of a wearer.
