    摘要: Provided is a novel fiberglass binder comprising a polycarboxy polymer and a polyol. The amount of polycarboxy polymer and polyol contained in the binder is such that the ratio of equivalents of hydroxyl groups to carboxy groups is preferably in the range from from about 0.6/1 to 0.8/1. It is further preferred that the molecular weight of the polycarboxy polymer is less than 10,000, and more preferably less than 5000.

An aqueous chemical size composiiton on the surface of the fibers contains a high level of surfactant and can contain a polymer film former and a biocide. Preferably, the fiber is chopped glass fiber. Novel sizing composition and methods of making and using the fiber are also disclosed.

    摘要: A fibrous insulation media is formed from a non-woven mat of thermoplastic fibers having a mean diameter of less than about 15 microns. Preferably, when used as an acoustical insulation, the media is formed of fibers having a mean diameter of less than about 13 microns; the media has a density of less than about 60 Kg/m3; and the media has a Fraiser air permeability of less than 75 cubic feet per minute per square foot of surface area. The media has first and second major surfaces and a fibrous core with at least one of the major surfaces having an integral skin thereon. The skin is formed by melting fibers at and immediately adjacent the major surface of the mat formed into the media to form a thermoplastic melt layer which is subsequently solidified into a skin on the major surface of the mat. The thermoplastic fibers of the mat are point bonded together at spaced apart locations to increase the integrity of the mat.

    摘要: The facing of a faced building insulation assembly includes a central field portion that is or includes a kraft paper sheet. The kraft paper sheet contains a fungi growth-inhibiting agent that causes the kraft paper sheet to be fungi growth resistant. The kraft paper sheet may be perforated to provide the facing with a selected water vapor permeance, and/or may include a heat activated bonding agent that bonds the facing to the insulation layer of the assembly. The field portion of the facing may include a coating to stiffen the facing and/or decrease the flame spread and smoke formation characteristics of the facing.

    摘要: A bushing for fiberizing molten material, such as molten glass, having a screen mounted in the bushing spaced above the tip or orifice plate with a central portion of the screen having a significantly lower percent of hole area than the percent of hole area in end portions of the screen. This bushing improves fiberizing efficiency in channel positions of a fiberizing operation. Also, such a screen can be laid on top of a conventional screen to convert a normal bushing to a channel position bushing. Methods of using these types of bushings to improve fiberization in the channel positions and for modifying conventional bushings for other uses are also disclosed.

    摘要: A fire resistant resilient insulation assembly, includes: a resilient insulation and a fire resistant polymeric film forming a tubular envelope surrounding the resilient insulation. The fire resistant polymeric film includes: 50 to 80 weight percent high density polymeric material; 5 to 45 weight percent linear low density polymeric material; 5 to 25 weight percent fire retardant concentrate (a halogen and a synergist in a polymeric carrier); 0 to 5 weight percent UV stabilizer; and 0 to 10 weight percent pigment. Preferably, the film is a two layer coextruded film with the outer layer being a predominately linear low density polymer that provides a good finish for printing and a relatively high coefficient of friction to improve the handling of the film during the encapsulation of the blanket. The inner layer is predominately high density polymer that provides the coextruded film with the impact strength and tear resistance required for processing and handling.

    摘要: An insulation sheet for insulating a wall, floor, ceiling or roof cavity is flexible, compressible and resilient and has lateral edges extending the length of the sheet. The lateral edges of the sheet are formed with contours along the lengths of the lateral edges, which with the flexibility, compressibility and resilience of the insulation sheet, increase the effective width of the sheet, relative to a conventional insulation sheet of the same length, width, thickness and density with straight lateral edges extending perpendicular between the major surfaces of the conventional sheet, with no or substantially no increase in the amount of insulation material forming the sheet relative to the insulation material used in the conventional insulation sheet. The contours of the lateral edges are formed by reciprocally oscillating cutting blades in a direction transverse to the feed of a sheet past the cutting blades and/or by placing the cutting blades at an angle other than perpendicular to the major surfaces of the sheet being fed past the cutting blades or by synchronously moving the cutting blades back and forth between a negative and a positive angle as the insulation sheet is fed past the cutting blades.
