The frangible links are manually breakable to customize the length of the duct extending from the open front end.

A method of printing on a sheet of paper comprises drawing a first sheet of paper from a first paper source into a printer having an optical scanner and a print head, scanning a first face of the first sheet to determine the presence or absence of print thereon. In response to detecting print on the first face, the print head is caused to print an obstruction on the first face. In response to detecting no print on the first face, the print head is caused to print new matter on the first face. The method enables a printer to accept used paper while eliminating confusion over which face contains the new matter.

A method of increasing production of a methylmalonyl-CoA derivative in a bacterium is disclosed that includes providing a bacterium that produces a methylmalonyl-CoA derivative in which methylmalonyl-CoA mutase function has been inhibited and culturing the bacterium in a medium containing an effective amount of methylmalonyl-CoA or a precursor thereof to increase the production of the methylmalonyl-CoA derivative by the bacterium. The production of the methylmalonyl-CoA derivative is increased when compared to production of the methylmalonyl-CoA derivative by the bacterium when cultured in a medium without the effective amount of methylmalonyl-CoA or a precursor thereof.

We have developed a new gene transfer system for extreme thermophiles of the genus Thermus, including Thermus flavus., using a chromosomal gene, and a thermostable derivative of the kanamycin-resistance gene (kan.sup.tr2). A plasmid mediated gene-replacement process is used to insert it into the chromosome resulting in the production of Leu.sup.- Km.sup.r transformants. This system not only allows stable, single-copy gene insertion into the chromosome of an extreme thermophile, but can be used in the thermo-genetic process described here to generate thermo-stabilized enzymes and proteins for industrial processes. This host-vector environment makes it possible to generate further thermo-stabilizing mutations in the kan gene beyond those levels previously reported.

Novel 6-deoxyerythromycin derivatives are disclosed, as are methods for their preparation and use as antiinfective agents. The compounds of the invention include 6-deoxyerythromycins and 6-deoxy-15-norerythromycins which are represented by the structural formula ##STR1## in which R.sub.1 is selected from OH and H, and R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are independently selected from H and CH.sub.3, as well as the pharmaceutically acceptable salts and esters of the above compounds. Additionally disclosed are genetically modified microorganisms which produce the compounds of the invention and means for the preparation of those microorganisms.

A unit of information technology equipment (ITE), such as a compute node or a network switch, comprises a system board in communication with network connectors that selectively connect to a network interconnect, a gravity sensor for detecting a first orientation and a second orientation of the system board, and a basic input/output system (BIOS) in communication with the gravity sensor to receive a signal identifying whether the system board is in the first or second orientation. The ITE further comprises a network ASIC (application specific integrated circuit) that inverts the pinout of transmit and receive signals in the network connectors in response to a command from the BIOS indicating that the system board is in the second orientation. A system may comprise a first ITE in a first orientation that interlocks with a second ITE in a second orientation that is inverted 180 degrees from the first orientation.
