Abstract: A replacement light tube for replacing a fluorescent light tube includes a bulb portion extending between a first end and a second end, the bulb portion comprising a support structure, a plurality of white light emitting diodes (LEDs) and an elongate light-transmissive cover. The support structure has a first surface extending between the first end and the second end. The plurality of LEDs are supported by the first surface and arranged between the first end and the second end. The elongate light-transmissive cover extends between the first end and the second end and over the first surface of the support structure. A first end cap and a second end cap are disposed on the first end and the second end, respectively, each configured to fit with a socket for a fluorescent light tube. A power supply circuit is configured to provide power to the plurality of LEDs. The plurality of LEDs are arranged to emit light through the elongate light-transmissive cover and at least a portion of the power supply circuit is packaged inside at least one of the end caps.

Abstract: A replacement light tube for replacing a fluorescent light tube includes a bulb portion extending between a first end and a second end, the bulb portion comprising a support structure, a plurality of white light emitting diodes (LEDs) and an elongate light-transmissive cover. Abstract: An LED-based light includes one or more LEDs, a sensor arranged to detect a brightness level in an area resulting from the combination of light emitted by the LEDs with light from at least one ambient light source other than the LEDs, and operable to output a signal corresponding to the detected brightness level, a controller operable to regulate an amount of power provided to the LEDs in response to the signal, a light transmitting housing for the LEDs, the sensor and the controller and a connector shaped for connection with a light socket disposed at an end of the housing.

Abstract: An LED-based light tube for use in a conventional fluorescent fixture includes a housing including a light transmitting portion, at least one electrical connector attached to the housing and configured for engagement with the conventional fluorescent fixture, at least one LED arranged to produce light in a direction toward the light transmitting portion, a sensor operable to detect a brightness level and output a signal corresponding to the detected brightness level, and a controller in electrical communication with the at least one electrical connector, operable to: compare the signal to a predetermined value corresponding to a desired brightness level and control an amount of power provided to the at least one LED in response to the signal to adjust the light produced by the at least one LED to achieve the desired brightness level.

Abstract: An LED-based light comprises: a tubular housing formed of a high-dielectric material and defined at least in part by a light transmitting portion; an elongate circuit board disposed within the housing; at least one LED mounted on the circuit board; an elongate heat sink disposed within the housing, the heat sink having an interior circuit board mounting surface opposing a radially outer surface, the circuit board mounted in thermally conductive relation to the circuit board mounting surface, substantially all of the radially outer surface of the heat sink in thermally conductive relation with the tubular housing for electrically insulated thermal transmission of heat generated by the LED from the circuit board to an ambient environment surrounding the LED-based light; and a pair of end caps disposed on opposing ends of the housing with connectors configured to physically connect the LED-based light to a conventional fluorescent light fixture.
