Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. Aspects of the disclosure describe narrow beam-based channel access that enables a device to communicate in a shared radio frequency spectrum band without performing channel access procedures. Specifically, aspects of the disclosure describe techniques for defining one or more directional beams as a narrow beam, where the relative narrowness of the beam may be determined in the context of interference (e.g., as opposed to being defined from a geometric perspective). For example, a particular beam may be determined to be a narrow beam, and therefore associated with communications in shared radio frequency spectrum bands without channel access procedures, based on one or more metrics and a number of spatial streams associated with the beam. A device may use such narrow beams for communications without channel access procedures in shared radio frequency spectrum bands.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A communication device, which may be otherwise known as user equipment (UE) may receive a downlink control information (DCI) on a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH). The DCI may include one or more of an indication of a set of transmission configuration indicator (TCI) states related to a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH), one or more receive beams associated with the set of TCI states, or a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) scheme. The UE may decode the DCI and may determine a temporal period associated with the indication of the set of TCI states. The UE may receive, based on the temporal period, the PDSCH according to one or more of the set of TCI states, the one or more receive beams associated with the set of TCI states, the PDSCH scheme, or one or more default receive beams.

Abstract: Mechanisms for directional channel occupancy monitoring for a frequency band among multiple networks are provided. In one aspect, a method of wireless communication includes monitoring, in a shared frequency band in a plurality of beam directions, for signals associated with one or more wireless networks different from the first wireless network.
