Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described that support frequency and time domain multiplexing for low peak-to-average waveforms with multiple streams. A user equipment (UE) may identify sets of symbols associated with different streams (e.g., multiple single-carrier discrete Fourier transform (DFT)-spread waveforms), where each stream may be associated with a low peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR). In some cases, different waveforms may be mapped to subsets of frequency resources through frequency division multiplexing (FDM). The UE may further reduce the PAPR of the multiplexed waveforms by performing time division multiplexing (TDM) across the single-carrier streams, and sets of symbols that are not used by one waveform may be used by another waveform. Frequency domain phase ramps may be applied to align the multiplexed waveforms. Signals included in an uplink transmission according to these techniques may maintain properties similar to single-carrier waveforms, including a low PAPR.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) or multiple UEs may transmit a grant-free uplink transmission to a base station. The base station may monitor resources for the grant-free uplink transmission (e.g., from one or more UEs) and the base station may generate a group feedback message corresponding to whether the base station successfully received the uplink transmission(s). The group feedback message may contain feedback for multiple uplink transmissions from one or multiple UEs. The group feedback message may be transmitted to a UE over a downlink shared channel or a downlink control channel and the UE may receive the group feedback message and may determine whether to retransmit the uplink transmission based on the group feedback message.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A user equipment (UE) may be configured with a transmission stream processor used to maintain a lower peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) for uplink transmissions. In some cases, a UE may map modulated symbols of different signals (or waveforms) to interleaved subsets of frequency resources, and this form of frequency division multiplexing (FDM) may increase the PAPR of an uplink transmission. To reduce the PAPR of uplink transmissions, a transmission stream processor at the UE may support techniques for phase ramping modulated symbols in the time domain prior to mapping the symbols to the frequency resources. These techniques may help to ensure that the signals to be included in an uplink transmission are aligned in such a way that the PAPR of the uplink transmission is reduced.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may use a lower code rate by splitting a data stream into multiple data sub-streams. The UE may split the data stream to synchronously encode, modulate, and spread the data sub-streams at different layers. Then, the UE may superpose or combine the sub-streams together. The UE may scramble the combined data stream with a UE-specific scrambling code. In some examples, the UE may then apply a cyclic prefix to the combined data stream. The UE may then transmit the combined data stream to a base station. The receiving base station may use layer-wise matched filters and element-wise signal estimators (ESE) to obtain soft information such as log-likelihood ratios. Channel decoders may then determine estimated bits for each layer of each user of the combined data stream.
