Abstract: Apparatuses (including base stations and terminals), systems, and methods for supporting both wideband and narrowband communications are described. In one aspect, a base station supporting first type terminals operating on a first bandwidth and second type terminals operating on a second bandwidth is described, having an information formatter, a transceiver, and a controller. The information formatter generates a Low-end Master Information Block (L-MIB) and a Low-end System Information Block (L-SIB), which are transmitted by the transceiver to first type and second type terminals. The L-MIB includes control information on an L-subframe configuration for supporting a second type terminal and a sub-band configuration of the L-subframe, while the L-SIB includes information on downlink reception and uplink transmission of the second type terminal. When the base station receives a Random Access Channel (RACH) preamble request from one of the terminals, the base station performs the random access procedure.

Abstract: A master information block (MIB) received by a terminal from a base station includes information associated with a first subcarrier spacing for at least one system information block (SIBx) (x=1, 2, 3, . . . ) and a random access response. The SIBx, received based on the first subcarrier spacing, includes information associated with a second subcarrier spacing for a physical random access channel (PRACH). A random access preamble is transmitted to the base station based on the second subcarrier spacing, and the random access response is received from the base station based on the first subcarrier spacing.

Abstract: A method is provided in a wireless communication system, in which configuration information of a channel state information-reference signal (CSI-RS) is transmitted to a terminal. The CSI-RS is included in a first set or a second set. A resource not used for mapping downlink data symbols is identified based on a first resource of CSI-RS included in the first set without consideration of a second resource of CSI-RS included in the second set. The downlink data symbols are mapped to a resource except the resource not used for mapping the downlink data symbols. Downlink data is transmitted on a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) to the terminal.

Abstract: A method and system for resource allocation is provided. A method includes identifying a set of resource blocks associated with a control channel for a terminal; transmitting, to the terminal, information on the set of resource blocks on a radio resource control signal, the information including first information indicating resource blocks included in the set of resource blocks and second information indicating a number of symbols corresponding to the set of resource blocks; transmitting, to the terminal, control information including information for downlink data on the control channel identified based on the first information and the second information; and transmitting, to the terminal, the downlink data on a data channel based on the control information. The set of resource blocks includes at least one control channel resource. A search space for the control channel of the terminal is defined based on an aggregation level, a number of the at least one control channel resource, and a number of a candidate associated with the control channel.
