    Abstract: Techniques are provided for transmitting Positioning Reference Signals (PRSs) in cells supporting two different Radio Access Technologies (RATs), where the two RATs (e.g. 4G LTE and 5G NR) employ dynamic spectrum sharing. To avoid interference between the PRSs and between the two RATs, the PRSs may be time aligned to the same set of PRS positioning occasions, and may be assigned orthogonal characteristics such as different muting patterns, orthogonal code sequences, different frequency shifts or different frequency hopping. UEs supporting both RATs may be enabled to measure PRSs for both RATs. UEs supporting only one RAT (e.g. 4G LTE) may be enabled to measure PRSs for just this RAT. A location server such as an LMF, E-SMLC or SLP may provide assistance data to UEs, and request measurements from UEs, for PRSs in one or both RATs.

    Abstract: Location services may be provided for user equipment (UE) devices in a radio access network (RAN) such as a Fifth Generation (5G) RAN. Location services may be supported by separate positioning domains that may include a Device to Device domain, a RAN domain and a core network (CN) domain. The RAN domain may include a location server function (LSF) that may support positioning services autonomously within the RAN or in collaboration with a D2D or CN domain. The CN domain may include a location server (LS) that may support control plane and/or user plane location. The RAN domain may enable high volume and low latency location service whereas the CN domain may enable high accuracy service and services for external clients.

    Abstract: Methods and techniques are described for efficiently supporting periodic and triggered location services for a user equipment (UE) in a Fifth Generation wireless network. A serving core network (CN) node, such as an AMF, receives a request for periodic or triggered location for the UE from another CN entity, such as a GMLC, and transfers the request to a location server, such as an LMF, which initiates and establishes the periodic and triggered location session with the UE. The serving CN node then releases all resources for the location request. The UE monitors for periodic or trigger events and reports each event to a location server which forwards an event report, optionally containing a UE location, to an external client via a CN entity, such as GMLC. The event reporting can be efficient because a serving CN node is not materially involved.

    Abstract: Angle of arrival (AOA) and differential AOA (DAOA) positioning for a user equipment (UE) is enhanced by using the UE's inertial sensors to track UE motion and change in angular UE orientation. UE location may be computed, by the UE or a location server, using triangulation for AOA measurements relative to a global reference frame or using multilateration for DAOA measurements. The computed UE location may remain accurate even when the UE is moving while obtaining measurements. The UE can also use AOA and DAOA measurements using 3D angles to increase accuracy when the UE and measured base stations are not in the same horizontal plane. 3D angles can also be used to identify whether the UE is close to a serving base station to improve accuracy further. Various non-AOA measurements may also be used to supplement AOA and DAOA measurements.

    Abstract: Methods and techniques are described for supporting location services for a user equipment (UE) in a Fifth Generation wireless network using a Location Management Function (LMF) based control plane (CP) location solution. The LMF serves as the main anchor point for location support instead of an Access and Mobility Management Function (AMF). The LMF may be in either a serving Public Land Mobile Network (PLMN) for a UE or in a Home PLMN for a roaming UE. The LMF may obtain location information for a UE via an AMF from a Next Generation Radio Access Network or the UE and may interact with a Gateway Mobile Location Center to receive location requests from and return location information to an external client. The LMF solution may be more efficient and require less implementation than an AMF based CP location solution.
