Abstract:
In a particular embodiment, a method includes scanning, by a mobile device, for a first wireless communication channel that is reserved for device authentication and association. The mobile device sends an authentication request to an access point via the first wireless communication channel. The method further includes receiving a reply to the authentication request from the access point.
Abstract:
In a particular embodiment, a method includes determining, by a first device, a number of discovery messages received during at least one discovery interval. Based on the number of discovery messages, an estimated number of devices in an ad-hoc network is determined The method further includes transmitting, during a second discovery interval that is subsequent to the at least one discovery interval, a discovery message. The discovery message indicates the estimated number of devices in the ad-hoc network.
Abstract:
Apparatus and methods for optimizing data transmission include receiving an indicator indicating the availability of a first communication channel, the first communication channel having a higher data rate than a second communication channel. Aspects can include determining whether the first communication channel is available to transmit data based on the indicator, and transmitting the data via the first communication channel, upon determining that the first communication channel is available. Additionally, aspects include entering a sleep state, upon determining that the first communication channel is not available, and determining whether the first communication channel has become available during a subsequent awake period. Entering a sleep state and determining whether the first communication channel has become available during a subsequent awake period may occur until the first communication channel becomes available or until an expiration of a timer. Other aspects, embodiments, and features are also claimed and described.
Abstract:
A system and method of infrastructure service discovery is disclosed. In a particular embodiment, a method includes requesting an access point to issue an Internet protocol address reserved for service discovery messages. In another particular embodiment, a method includes generating a service query message at a mobile station and sending the service query message to an advertisement server via an uncontrolled port. In yet another particular embodiment, a method includes generating, at a mobile station, a layer 2 protocol query encapsulating at least a portion of a layer 3 protocol query in the layer 2 protocol query to generate a modified layer 2 protocol query. The layer 3 protocol query is associated with a service discovery request. The method further includes sending the modified layer 2 protocol query to an access point or to an information server via a wireless network.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for control and triggering of machine to machine (M2M) devices (e.g., smart meters). More specifically how to allow an M2M service provider (e.g., utility company) to use an operator's network to communicate with the M2M device connected with a UE/GW associated with the operator's network. The M2M service provider may receive identification of the UE/GW, but not for the M2M device. By transmitting an identifier for the M2M device along with an identifier for the UE/GW, the network operator may define establish and maintain a communication path specific to M2M devices. Similar techniques may be incorporated to allow the M2M service provider to locate and trigger the M2M device.
Abstract:
Access terminals are adapted to transmit a plurality of previously successful access probes to a network node, and determine an initial transmission power level for subsequent access attempts. The initial transmission power level can be determined based at least in part on one or more parameters associated with the plurality of previously successful access probes. An initial access probe of a subsequent access attempt can then be transmitted at the determined initial transmission power level. Network nodes that receive the one or more access probes from access terminals can send a message instructing the access terminals to employ a particular initial transmission power level for a subsequent access attempt. Other aspects, embodiments, and features are also included.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for communicating in a wireless communication system are described. Various processes for reducing the initial link set up time are described. In one aspect, a method in a wireless communication system is provided. The method includes transmitting a message advertising wireless communication from an access point. The method further includes receiving a plurality of access requests from a plurality of devices. The method further includes determining demand for wireless communication based on the plurality of access requests. The method further includes modifying a broadcast of the message advertising the wireless communication based on the determined demand.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for communicating in a wireless communication system are described. Various processes for reducing the initial link set up time are described. In one aspect a method in a wireless communication system is provided. The method includes receiving, at a terminal, a message including information for establishing a link with a device in the wireless communication system. The method further includes identifying, at the terminal, a time slot and a back-off amount within the identified time slot based on a value included in the received message. The method also includes abstaining from sensing a medium based on the identified time slot and the identified back-off amount. The method further includes transmitting an association request message to establish the link with the device during the identified time slot after expiration of the back-off amount.
Abstract:
This disclosure provides methods, components, devices and systems for flexible beacon interval operation. Some aspects more specifically relate to inclusion of indications of static and dynamic beacon intervals in beacon frames, and other frames. In some examples, an AP may transmit a frame including multiple indications of multiple beacon intervals, such as an indication of a static beacon interval and an indication of a dynamic beacon interval. The AP may then transmit frames, such as beacon frames, at times associated with the beacon intervals.
Abstract:
This disclosure provides systems, methods, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer storage media, for implementing multi-link aggregation and conditional inheritance in a first basic service set (BSS). In one aspect, an apparatus may establish a first communication link with a first station (STA) of the first BSS using a first frequency band. The apparatus may determine a first link profile for a second communication link by customizing one or more management elements of management information associated with the first communication link. The apparatus may configure a first non-inheritance element of the first link profile associated with the second communication link to indicate usage of at least one management element of the management information by the second communication link is disabled. The apparatus may generate a management frame that comprises at least the first link profile, and may output the management frame for transmission.
