Abstract:
A communication system for providing network access over a shared communication link is disclosed. The communication system includes a user access point, a network access point and a communications link. The user access point is coupled to one or more user terminals that access a remote network. The network access point is coupled to the remote network. The communications link couples the user access point and the network access point. The communications link is at least partially controlled by the network access point, which monitors information passed between the remote network and the user access point to create an estimate of future usage of the communications link by the user access point based on the information. The network access point allocates communications link resources for the user access point based on the estimate.
Abstract:
A request processing section (12) receives a request of a content which a user desires to be delivered. A delivery destination specification section (14) specifies at least one or more of a plurality of content reproduction apparatuses which can reproduce the content requested. The request processing section (12) causes the user to operate a mobile terminal so as to select that of the content reproduction apparatuses specified by the delivery destination specification section (14) to which the content should be delivered. A content acquisition section (10) externally acquires the content. Then, a content delivery section (20) delivers the content to the content reproduction apparatus thus selected by the user. By this, the user can surely watch/listen to the content which he desires to be delivered, via the content reproduction apparatus.
Abstract:
A method is provided for the restitution of multimedia data transmitted by a gateway to a communications terminal via a first transmission channel. The method includes the following steps: interrogating the terminal via the gateway about its capabilities of restituting the multimedia data; transmitting, to the gateway via the terminal, a list of commands that it is capable of executing; transmitting, via the gateway, multimedia data with the aid of at least one series of commands that is part of the list of commands that can be executed by the terminal, and restituting, in this terminal, the multimedia data with the aid of the received command.
Abstract:
A method and arrangement for remotely controlling the communication of media between devices in different local networks (200, 202) using a remote control device (200b). The remote control device obtains discovery information on a first device (200c) and sends a remote access request over a multimedia service network to a home multimedia gateway (202b) in the opposite local network (202) for a connection to a second device (202c) therein. The home multimedia gateway then responds with communication parameters established for the second device in a residential gateway, and the remote control device can then order the first device to execute a multimedia session with the second device by using said communication parameters. This solution enables a remote control device visiting a local network to order a device in that network to fetch media content from a device in another home network, or vice versa.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for providing emergency services, e.g., E911 services, for nomadic users by utilizing network announcements to remind customers to update location information used to provide services on packet networks, such as Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and Service over Internet Protocol (SoIP) networks, are disclosed. For example, the method enables the VoIP or SoIP service provider to detect a change in the IP address associated with either the broadband modem or the router through which a terminal adaptor is used to access services when a customer is logging on from a new location. In turn, the method sends a reminder network announcement message to the terminal adaptor, e.g., to be played when the terminal adaptor goes off-hook.
Abstract:
Novel tools and techniques for providing video calling solutions. In some such solutions, a video calling device resides functionally inline between a set-top box and a television set. Such solutions can provide, in some cases, high performance video calling, high video quality, simplified installation, configuration and/or use, and/or the ability to enjoy video calling in an inclusive, comfortable environment, such as a family room, den, or media room.
Abstract:
A VoIP system has plural CPE units connected to an IP network as parties to be connected with each other. Each CPE unit is composed of a VoIP-IF circuit and an audio codec circuit. The VoIP-IF circuit executes at least one of the coding process to the first audio frequency signal and the restoration process to the media information to transmit the media information generated by the process to the party connected and restore the first audio frequency signal from the media information supplied from the party connected to output it. The audio codec circuit performs at least one of the sending of the received music data to the party and the conversion of the music data supplied from the party into the second audio frequency signal.

Abstract:
Even when a site of the Internet is used, switching is automatically performed to a connection via NGN, and a service via the NGN is provided to a user terminal. A HGW transmits a request from the user terminal in accordance with a destination address to a redirect server and a service provider server through one of an IP network and an NGN network. The redirect server redirects access to the service provider server via the IP network to access via the NGN network. The user terminal accesses one of communication devices of the service provider server through the IP network, and communication with the service provider server is performed through the NGN network based on address information of a redirect destination from the redirect server.
Abstract:
An IP telephony apparatus provides simultaneous SIP communication for multiple IP phones and a method is proposed for the same. The IP telephony apparatus comprises a network connection port connected to a network; a plurality of telephone connection ports connected to a plurality of telephone sets; a voice codec unit connected to the telephone connection ports and used for converting a voice signal to a digital voice packet and for converting a digital voice packet to a voice signal; and an IP telephony allocation unit connected to the network connection port and the plurality of telephone connection ports. The IP telephony allocation unit creates an SIP control block containing an SIP call-leg for a local SIP number, and allocates the SIP control block to a destination telephone set according to the SIP call-leg, whereby the telephone sets have bi-directional digital voice packet transmission with a remote SIP number.
