Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described that provide for system information (SI) for access and backhaul. An access node (AN) may provide SI to devices within its cell indicating communication procedure configurations. The AN may provide SI to devices that is specific to whether the communication procedure is an access procedure or a backhaul procedure. The AN may transmit a common master information block (MIB) directing the devices within its cell to a search space in order to receive the remaining SI. The search space may be shared between access devices and backhaul devices or alternatively may be separate between access and backhaul devices. The remaining SI may not be shared between access and backhaul devices. The devices may determine different configurations as defined by the SI from the AN for communications procedures based on whether the procedure is an access procedure or a backhaul procedure.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described that support evolved semi-persistent scheduling (SPS) for wireless communications. A base station may configure SPS in which multiple time intervals are scheduled, each time interval including multiple slots that may be scheduled by different uplink or downlink resource allocations. The SPS configuration may include an ON-OFF duty cycle where an ON portion of the duty cycle spans a portion of a time interval and includes uplink and downlink resources, and an OFF portion of the duty cycle spans a remaining portion of the time interval and does not include any allocated SPS resources. Such SPS configurations may be used, for example, for transmitting sensor data and command information between controllers and sensors/actuators in a factory automation network.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. In particular, a backhaul network that may be established between access nodes and/or base stations is shown and described. To support communications via the backhaul network, a synchronized frame structure and unique network topologies may be established. Resources may be allocated to different wireless communication links based on the synchronized frame structure. Occupancy/availability indications are shown and described, which enable the local redistribution of resources to account for variations in signal quality and/or variations in traffic experienced by the backhaul network.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A wireless device may utilize different beam configurations for different signal types, traffic demand, path loss, capabilities of the wireless device or other wireless devices in the system, and the like. The wireless device also may be capable of determining different duplexing modes, which may be utilized in addition to the different beam configurations. The duplexing mode may be based on received measurement reports (e.g., from one or more reference signals) or in some instances, the duplexing mode may be determined by another node (e.g., a core network node, a base station) and transmitted to the wireless device.

Abstract: Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a control node may determine, for a target wireless node in communication with a plurality of other wireless nodes via a plurality of links of a network, a plurality of powers for the plurality of links, wherein the plurality of powers are selected to control inter-link interference or to satisfy a maximum power criterion. The control node may cause at least one of the target wireless node or the plurality of other wireless nodes to use the plurality of powers for concurrent transmissions to the target wireless node using the plurality of links based at least in part on determining the plurality of powers. Numerous other aspects are provided.

Abstract: The use of a radio access technology (RAT) may enable wireless communication using one or more node functions at a wireless node, such as a base station or access node. Additionally, multiple wireless nodes may communicate in a network using a schedule that is aligned with a frame structure. For example, a wireless node may establish a link with different wireless nodes using a RAT that supports a synchronized frame structure, such as a millimeter wave (mmW) RAT. The wireless nodes may instantiate one or more node functions, such as an access node function (ANF) and a user equipment function (UEF). The wireless nodes may then communicate according to active and suspended modes using the node functions, where the communication is based on a schedule aligned with the frame structure.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described that support node connection techniques in wireless systems, such as relay node connections in a wireless backhaul network. A first node, which may be a new node or a node seeking to re-establish a connection, may initiate a connection establishment through transmission of a synchronization signal (SS). The first node, responsive to the SS transmission, may receive a response signal from one of the other nodes, and may establish a link with the other node. In some cases, the response signal may be an SS transmission from the other node, and the first node may transmit a random access request to the other node to initiate establishment of the link. In other cases, the response signal may be a random access request from the other node to initiate establishment of the link.

Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure relate to methods and apparatus for discovering a controller function for wireless backhaul using cellular radio access technology (RAT) such as communications systems operating according to new radio (NR) technologies. For example, such a method may include connecting to a parent relay that provides connectivity to a controller function (CF) of a network, receiving, from the parent relay, information regarding at least one of: the CF or a radio access network (RAN) area covered by the CF, obtaining an identifier of the CF using the information, and connecting to the CF using the identifier.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A wireless node may establish a wireless connection between the wireless node and a second wireless node in a wireless backhaul communications network. The wireless node may identify a first set of common resources for use in at least one of access communications or backhaul communications. The first set of common resources is allocated for common use by the wireless nodes of the wireless backhaul communications network. The wireless node may identify a second set of partitioned resources available for at least one of access communications or backhaul communications. The second set partitioned into a plurality of subsets each allocated for use by selected subsets of one or more of the wireless nodes of the wireless backhaul communications network.

Abstract: A user equipment (UE) may experience poor communication with a network access device, and the network access device may configure the UE to connect to, and route communications through, one or more relay nodes (e.g., which may be another UE, a network operator-deployed relay, etc.). Techniques are described whereby these relay nodes may autonomously form a wireless backhaul network. Sequential implementations are considered such that the size of the wireless backhaul network may scale efficiently. In some examples, the wireless backhaul network may form by reusing existing connectivity establishment procedures. Importantly, the proposed techniques enable a relay to possess (e.g., be configured with) functionality that may traditionally be associated with a UE, base station, and gateway. Such multi-faceted functionality may enable the described sequential formation of wireless backhaul networks with tree topology.
