Abstract: A liquid crystal display, including a first substrate; a gate line and a data line disposed on the first substrate; and a pixel electrode connected to the gate line and the data line and comprising a first sub pixel electrode and a second sub pixel electrode disposed on the first substrate. Each of the first sub pixel electrode and the second sub pixel electrode includes a transverse stem; a longitudinal stem; and a plurality of minute branches extending from transverse stem and the longitudinal stem. A width of the first sub pixel electrode is different from a width of the second sub pixel electrode.

Abstract: An exemplary embodiment of the present invention provides a liquid crystal display including a first insulation substrate. A pixel electrode is disposed on the first insulation substrate. A first alignment layer is disposed on the pixel electrode. A second insulation substrate faces the first insulation substrate. A common electrode is disposed on a surface of the second insulation substrate, which the surface of the second insulation substrate faces the first insulation substrate. A second alignment layer is disposed on a surface of the common electrode, which the surface of the common electrode faces the first insulation substrate. A liquid crystal layer is disposed between the first alignment layer and the second alignment layer. The liquid crystal layer includes liquid crystal molecules. Liquid crystal molecules adjacent to at least one of the first alignment layer and the second alignment layer have a pre-tilt angle. At least one of the first alignment layer and the second alignment layer has an ion inductor.

Abstract: A display device includes a display area and a seal area which surrounds the display area. The display device includes a first display substrate, a second display substrate facing the first display substrate; and a sealant disposed between the first display substrate and the second display substrate, in the seal area. The first display substrate has a first base substrate, a first polarizing element including a plurality of first linear patterns extending along a first direction on the first base substrate, and a first protective layer on the first polarizing element and including a first opening. The sealant covers the first opening. Adjacent first linear patterns are separated from each other along a second direction, intersecting the first direction, by a first gap and the first opening exposes at least one first gap in the seal area.

Different voltages are applied to the three subpixels to improve lateral visibility of the liquid crystal display.
