摘要: The present invention discloses, in certain aspects, a system for securing and item in a tubular channel in a wellbore, the system having a lower body member, an upper body member, interconnecting apparatus for movably interconnecting the lower body member and the upper body member so that upon application of a downward force on the upper body member the upper body member moves downwardly in the second tubular effecting sideways movement of the lower body member so the lower body member contacts an interior surface of the tubular channel thereby wedging the lower body member and the upper body member in the tubular channel, the interconnecting apparatus having a connecting bar disposed partially in a first connecting bar groove in the lower body member and partially in a second connecting bar groove in the upper body member, and the connecting bar grooves and the connecting bar configured so that the connecting bar is movably held in the connecting bar grooves, and at least one pawl member having opposed pawl member ends and movably mounted on the connecting bar, and movable in response to an upward force on the upper body member so that one of the opposed pawl member ends contacts the lower body member and the other pawl member end contacts the upper body member forcing the two body members apart.

摘要: An earth-boring bit has a bit body and at least one cutter rotatably secured to the bit body. The cutter includes a plurality of teeth formed integrally with the cutter and arranged in circumferential rows. Each tooth has inner and outer ends, leading and trailing flanks, and a crest transversely connecting the ends and flanks. A thickness of wear-resistant material is applied over the crest and at least a portion of the ends and flanks of the tooth. An extending layer of wear-resistant material is applied at the intersection of the leading flank and the outer end to provide twice the hard-facing thickness and increased wear-resistance in that area of the tooth that is subjected to the greatest wear.

摘要: Hardfacing to protect wear surfaces of drill bits and other downhole tools having coated diamond particles dispersed within and bonded to a metallic matrix deposit. The coating on the diamond particles may be formed from materials and alloys such as particles, tungsten carbide, and tungsten carbide/cobalt and cermets such as metal carbides and metal nitrides. The coated diamond particles are preferably sintered and have a generally spherical shape. The coated diamond particles are pre-mixed with selected materials such that welding and cooling will form both a metallurgical bond and a mechanical bond within the solidified metallic matrix deposit. A welding rod is prepared by placing a mixture of coated diamond particles, hard particles such as tungsten carbide/cobalt, and loose filler material into a steel tube. A substrate is hardfaced by progressively melting the welding rod onto a selected surface of the substrate and allowing the melted material to solidify, forming the desired hardfacing with coated diamond particles dispersed therein on the substrate surface.

摘要: An earth-boring bit is provided with hard gage inserts that protrude from the gage surface of the cutter to engage the side of the borehole for holding gage. The cutting end of the gage insert has a cutting end defining at least one sharp cutting edge and at least one cutting surface that define a negative rake angle with respect to the sidewall of the borehole that is being sheared by the gage insert. The cutting end, cutting edge, and cutting surface of the gage insert are formed of a super-hard and abrasion-resistant material such as polycrystalline diamond or cubic boron nitride. The body of the insert is formed of a hard, fracture-tough material such as cemented tungsten carbide. The improved gage inserts provide an actively cutting gage surface that engages the sidewall of the borehole to promote shearing removal of the sidewall material. Such an improved gage insert provides an earth-boring bit with improved gage-holding ability, and improved steerability in directional drilling operations.

摘要: A steel tooth rolling cutter earth boring drill bit comprises a bit body with a threaded upper end for attachment to the end of a drill string, and a lower end comprising three legs extending downwardly from the bit body and with a rolling cutter rotatably mounted on each leg. A layer of wear resistant material is applied to a portion of each rolling cutter and comprises were resistant particles in a substantially steel matrix. The steel matrix is integrally formed with the cutter in a rapid, solid state densification powder metallurgy (RSSDPM) process, and comprises a duplex microstructure comprising from about 10 to about 40 volume percent austenite and from about 60 to 90 volume precent martensite. The duplex microstructure may be achieved by incorporating a minor fraction of pure nickel and/or manganese powder in the powder mix used in the process, thereby providing nickel or manganese enrichment of the austenitic zones of the matrix.

摘要: A downhole wellbore tool has been developed which has a lower movable valve apparatus which, when it contacts a member in a wellbore or in a tubular in a wellbore, is moved to close off fluid flow through the item to which the valve apparatus is attached. In one aspect, such a valve apparatus is used below a mill above which is positioned a downhole motor which rotates the mill for milling. Actuation of the valve apparatus results in a cessation of the circulation of the motive fluid flowing to and through the motor so that milling stops. In one aspect the valve is selectively operable so that milling may be resumed. In another aspect such a tool is useful for indicating a known location in a wellbore when a decrease or cessation in fluid flow or a decrease in pressure is noticed at the surface.

摘要: A milled teeth rotary cone rock bit consists of chisel crested milled teeth with generously radiused corners at the ends of the crest. A concave depression is formed in the crest between the radiused ends. A layer of hardfacing material formed over each tooth is thicker at the corners and in the concave depressions in the crest to provide a means to inhibit wear of the hardfacing as the bit works in a borehole.
