Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices are described for wireless communication. In one method, a method of wireless communication at a user equipment (UE) includes receiving a synchronization signal. The synchronization signal may be common to a plurality of cells within a network. The method further includes acquiring a timing of the network based on the synchronization signal, and transmitting a pilot signal in response to acquiring the timing of the network. The pilot signal may identify the UE and be concurrently receivable by the plurality of cells within the network. Other aspects, features, and embodiments are also claimed and described.

Abstract: Systems and techniques are disclosed to enhance the efficiency of available bandwidth between UEs and base stations. A UE transmits a sounding reference signal to the base station, which characterizes the uplink channel based on the SRS received and, using reciprocity, applies the channel characterization for the downlink channel. The base station may form the beam to the UE based on the uplink channel information obtained from the SRS. As the downlink channel changes the base station needs updated information to maintain its beamforming, meaning it needs a new SRS. Transmission of the SRS takes resources; to minimize this, the UE or the base station can determine a period during which the downlink channel will predictably remain coherent and set up a schedule for sending SRS. Alternatively, the UE or the base station can determine on demand that the channel is losing coherence and initiate an on demand SRS.

Abstract: Wireless communication devices are adapted to facilitate non-orthogonal underlay transmissions. In one example, wireless communication devices can receive a wireless transmission via a particular time and frequency resource, where the wireless transmission includes a first signal employing a modulation associated with orthogonal wireless communication, and a second signal employing a modulation associated with non-orthogonal wireless communication. The wireless communication device can decode the first signal and the second signal. In another example, wireless communication devices may transmit a first signal utilizing a first type of modulation associated with non-orthogonal wireless communication, where the first signal is transmitted over at least a portion of a time and frequency resource scheduled for a second signal from a second wireless communication device, the second signal utilizing a second type of modulation associated with orthogonal wireless communication. Abstract: Systems and techniques are disclosed to reduce pilot overhead by providing common reference signals coded with cover codes that are orthogonal in time and frequency domains. Common reference signals that are coded by cover codes orthogonal in both domains can be de-spread in both the time and frequency domains for improved resolution and larger pull-in windows for both. Also disclosed is semi-uniform pilot spacing in both the frequency and time domains. In a time domain, a first pilot symbol pair is spaced by a first time interval from each other and a second pilot symbol pair is spaced by a second time interval from the first pair, the second interval being greater than the first. In a frequency domain, a first set of pilot symbols is densely placed in a selected frequency band and a second set of pilot symbols is sparsely placed surrounding and including the selected frequency band.

Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure provide various wireless communication numerology designs that can maintain symbol boundary alignment while multiplexing different numerologies in wireless communication. The symbols may be scaled for different tone or subcarrier spacings while maintaining the symbol boundary alignment between different numerologies. Maintaining the symbol-boundary alignment between different numerologies enables symbol-level numerology multiplexing. The disclosed numerology designs enable low latency communication and improved interference management, and provide non-ambiguous symbol boundary timing reference for multiplexing different numerologies.

Abstract: In wireless communication systems that support 5G or NR protocols, subframes used for communication may have different numerology options. Numerology options may refer to the characteristics of the subframe such as a tone spacing within each symbol of the subframe, a symbol duration for each symbol of the subframe, a number of symbols in the subframe, etc. A subframe may include a control channel (e.g., the PDCCH) and a data channel (e.g., the PDSCH). In an aspect, the control channel and the data channel within the subframe may have different numerologies. As such, a need exists to signal the numerology of the subframe to users and to determine whether and how to multiplex the control channel and the data channel into the subframe.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A discontinuous reception (DRX) periodicity may be configured to enable monitoring of a reference signal (RS) for RLM procedures. For example, a transmitting device may configure a DRX periodicity for an RS, where the configured DRX periodicity may include a periodicity of discrete transmissions of the RS or a periodicity of a transmission window in which the RS is located. Accordingly, a receiving device may identify the DRX periodicity and monitor radio link quality using the RS based on the DRX periodicity. In some examples, the RS may be transmitted independent of control channel transmissions, and the transmitting device may configure one or more control resource sets for the RS.

Abstract: Various aspects described herein relate to communicating hybrid automatic repeat/request (HARQ) feedback. HARQ feedback related to a HARQ communication over one or more links can be received from a user equipment (UE), wherein the HARQ feedback includes at least one or more interference parameters and/or one or more predicted interference parameters. A rate control loop for each of one or more interference patterns corresponding to each of the one or more links can be maintained based at least in part on the one or more interference parameters. A scheduling grant can be generated for the UE for another instance of the HARQ communication based at least in part on the rate control loop and the one or more predicted interference parameters.
