Abstract: An eNodeB (eNB), Machine Type Communications (MTC) user equipment (UE) and method using a physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) in a non-legacy PUCCH region are generally described. The UE may be in an enhanced coverage (EC) mode. The UE may receive higher layer signaling indicating physical resource blocks in the PUCCH region and offsets in a cell- or UE-specific manner on a per-slot basis or, when in EC mode, per-set of N subframes basis. The UE may receive a resource allocation for a PUCCH in a PUCCH region separate from a legacy PUCCH region and reserved for non-legacy UEs. The UE may transmit a frequency hopping PUCCH in the PUCCH region and use shortened PUCCH format to accommodate an extended retuning time by puncturing a first and/or last symbol of at least one slot. If retuning, the UE may drop a sounding reference signal transmission in the next subframe.

Abstract: An electronic device for use in a machine type communication (MTC) relay device includes circuitry having: a receive signal path to receive data from at least one MTC device; and a transmit signal path to forward processed data, based on the data, to an evolved NodeB (eNB), wherein at least one of: (a) the data is received via Device-to-Device (D2D) sidelink; (b) the MTC relay device is a relay node and the data is received via a relaying link; or (c) the MTC relay device is a multi-radio access technology (multi-RAT) capable small cell device and the data is received via WiFi, Bluetooth, Long-Term Evolution-Unlicensed (LTE-Unlicensed), or mmWave communication.

Abstract: Technology for a user equipment (UE), operable for monitoring a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) is disclosed. The UE can monitor a downlink (DL) control channel for DL control information (DCI) at a predetermined monitoring occasion, wherein the predetermined monitoring occasion has a periodicity of P slots or P symbols with an offset Os. The UE can monitor a downlink (DL) control channel for DL control information (DCI) at a predetermined monitoring occasion, wherein Os has San offset with respect to a first slot in subframe number zero (SFN#0). The UE can monitor a downlink (DL) control channel for DL control information (DCI) at a predetermined monitoring occasion, wherein P is a positive integer greater than zero.

Abstract: Techniques, apparatus and methods are disclosed that enable reduced signaling overhead in a fifth generation (5G) wireless system. The system includes support for asynchronous uplink transmission, resource pool configuration, acknowledgement response and retransmission. For example, in a Type-1 transmission scheme, a user equipment (UE) selects one resource within the resource pool and transmits data in the uplink on the selected resource. In a Type-2 transmission scheme, a UE selects one resource within a scheduling request (SR) region in the resource pool, transmits the SR for the resource which contains the resource allocation for data transmission, and transmits the uplink data on the resource which is indicated in the SR information. In a Type-3 transmission scheme, a UE selects a resource within the SR region, transmits the SR on the selected resource with information on the resource selected for subsequent data transmission and transmits on the indicated resource if it receives an acknowledgment, in response to its transmitted SR.

Abstract: Technology to improve resource allocation for inter-cell device-to-device (D2D) discovery and timing synchronization between user equipments (UEs) connected to asynchronous network deployments is disclosed. Also, transmission rules are provided for networks wherein discovery-resource pools are allocated in a frequency-division-multiplexing (FDM) manner. In the first sub-frame of a transmission-resource pool, there may be overlap between resources that are allocated for a discovery-resource pool and resources that are allocated for D2D synchronization signals (D2DSSs). Non-overlapping PRBs in the discovery-resource pool can be allocated for WAN transmission or D2D-discovery transmission. In scenarios where discovery-resource pools are allocated using FDM, a measurement such as reference signal received power (RSRP) or path loss can be made for a UE. The measurement can be compared to a threshold value to determine whether the UE will transmit a D2DSS.

Abstract: Resource allocation techniques for device-to-device (D2D) discovery are described. In one embodiment, for example, user equipment (UE) may comprise at least one radio frequency (RF) transceiver to receive device-to-device (D2D) configuration information comprising a D2D discovery period index value for a first D2D discovery period and logic, at least a portion of which is in hardware, the logic to determine a D2D discovery period index value for a second D2D discovery period based on the D2D discovery period index value for the first D2D discovery period and determine a set of D2D discovery resource allocation parameters for the second D2D discovery period based on a set of D2D discovery resource allocation parameters for the first D2D discovery period and the D2D discovery period index value for the second D2D discovery period. Other embodiments are described and claimed.
