Abstract: In one embodiment, a device in a network receives metrics regarding a node in the network. The device uses the metrics as input to a machine learning model. The device determines, using the machine learning model and based on the metrics, an indication of abnormality of the node oscillating between using a plurality of different routing parents in the network. The device provides a results notification based on the indication of abnormality of the node oscillating between using the plurality of different routing parents.

Abstract: In a multi-PHY, low power and lossy network comprising a plurality of nodes, a sender determines that a dwell time threshold limit for transmission of data will be exceeded by transmission of the data over a first network interface or that the recipient is unknown. The sender determines transmission parameters for the transmission of the data over the first network interface and transmits the transmission parameters to a receiver device over a second network interface that is different than the first network interface. The sender determines a channel on the first network interface for transmission of the data and transmits the determined channel with the transmission parameters to the receiver, or the receiver determines the channel on the first network interface for transmission of the data and transmits an indication of the determined channel to the sender in response to receiving the transmission parameters.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a device in a network maintains a machine learning-based recursive model that models a time series of observations regarding a monitored entity in the network. The device applies sparse dictionary learning to the recursive model, to find a decomposition of a particular state vector of the recursive model. The decomposition of the particular state vector comprises a plurality of basis vectors. The device determines a mapping between at least one of the plurality of basis vectors for the particular state vector and one or more human-readable interpretations of the basis vectors. The device provides a label for the particular state vector to a user interface. The label is based on the mapping between the at least one of the plurality of basis vectors for the particular state vector and the one or more human-readable interpretations of the basis vectors.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a method comprises determining a movable network device is moving along a repeatable sequence of access point devices in a deterministic network; and establishing a deterministic track along the repeatable sequence of access point devices, the deterministic track comprising insertion slots allocated for insertion of a data packet, by the movable network device, into the deterministic track via any one of the respective access point devices.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a device in a network receives an output of an anomaly detection model. The device receives state information surrounding the output of the anomaly detection model. The device determines whether the state information supports the output of the anomaly detection model. The device causes the anomaly detection model to be adjusted based on a determination that the state information does not support the output of the anomaly detection model.

Abstract: The techniques herein improve the performance of Trickle-based asynchronous broadcasts in a channel-hopping network, such as a low-power and lossy network (LLN). In particular, a plurality of channels in a channel-hopping network on which a plurality of nodes communicate is determined, and an asynchronous broadcast message is identified to transmit from a particular node. Additionally, a plurality of time-based events is determined, and in response to each time-based event, the asynchronous broadcast message is transmitted on a single selected channel of the plurality of channels per time-based event.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a network device routes traffic along a network path and receives a performance threshold crossing alert regarding performance of the network path. The network device detects that the performance threshold crossing alert is part of a potential network attack by analyzing, by the device, the performance threshold crossing alert. The network device also provides a notification of the detected network attack.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a time period is identified in which probe packets are to be sent along a path in a network based on predicted user traffic along the path. The probe packets are then sent during the identified time period along the path. Conditions of the network path are monitored during the time period. The rate at which the packets are sent during the time period is dynamically adjusted based on the monitored conditions. Results of the monitored conditions are collected, to determine an available bandwidth limit along the path.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a method comprises: receiving, by a network device in a data network, a wireless data packet containing new data; responding to the wireless data packet, by the network device, by initiating a prescribed randomized collision avoidance method requiring the network device to first wait at least a first half of a prescribed minimum contention interval before attempting transmission at a randomized position within a second half of the prescribed minimum contention interval; selectively retransmitting, by the network device, the wireless data packet based on determining, at the randomized position, that the network device has not received a prescribed number of copies of the wireless data packet; and selectively sending, by the network device to a path computation element in the data network, a message requesting membership in a dominating set in response to transmission of the wireless data packet by the network device.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a supervisory device in a network forms a virtual access point (VAP) for a node in the network. A set of access points (APs) in the network are mapped to the VAP as part of a VAP mapping and the node treats the APs in the VAP mapping as a single AP for purposes of communicating with the network. The supervisory device receives measurements from the APs in the VAP mapping regarding communications associated with the node. The supervisory device identifies a movement of the node based on the received measurements from the APs in the VAP mapping. The supervisory device adjusts the set of APs in the VAP mapping based on the identified movement of the node.
