    摘要: A railway locomotive truck provides improved mountings and/or configurations for traction motor axle support bearings to improve their wear life. These include tilting, or sloping, of the support bearing bores to more closely match the orientations of the bearing journal surfaces on the axles which slope as a result of bending of the axles under the weight of the locomotive. An added feature is forming the bearing bores with a slight conicity to accommodate slight tilting of the traction motor under heavy loads due to taking up of the clearances in the motor support axle bearings. Other features include various ways of mountings or altering the construction of the axle bearings to provide the desired positioning.

    摘要: A bearing take-up frame including a base assembly having a top plate permanently, pivotally secured thereto at one end and removeably secured thereto at an opposite end. A bearing block assembly is received between the base assembly and the top plate for guided axial adjustment with respect thereto. End walls are secured to the base assembly and the top plate respectively, with a lower end wall defining a generally U-shaped slot. A threaded element is received in the U-shaped slot and held against axial movement, and has a transmission screw threadably received therethrough, an opposite end of which is secured to the bearing block. Rotation of the threaded element thus imparts movement to the bearing block. By releasing and pivoting the top wall upwardly, the bearing block, transmission screw and threaded element may be removed or installed.

    摘要: A machine tool bed has guideway rails. A slide is mounted to the rails and has gib blocks spaced along the length of the slide and engaging the rails. The gib blocks are spring loaded to maintain them engaged with the guide rails at all times to provide zero-clearance between gibs and rails. The gib blocks are provided with backing surfaces at self-locking angles such as to avoid displacement of the gib blocks under loading, and maintain constant zero-clearance.

    摘要: An apparatus for equalizing the radical load on the pivoted bearing pads of a journal bearing which comprises in excess of two pivoted bearing pads, say four or five pivoted bearing pads, for example.In a preferred embodiment, the total number of bearing pads is an even number (4, 6, etc.) and the two centrally located bearing pads relative to the span of the plurality of bearing pads in a circumferential direction are radially fixed in position. The remaining bearing pads are mounted on supports which are radially adjustable. A mechanical adjusting means is provided for separately radially adjusting the support for each of the radially adjustable bearing pads. The supports for the respective radially adjustable bearing pads are radially adjusted until an equalization is reached between the high pressure oil film pressures at the interfaces between all of the respective bearing pads (including the radially fixed bearing pads) and the rotating journal.It may be desirable under certain conditions to purposely provide a differential oil pressure setting for certain of the bearing pads at the time of initial adjustment to allow for anticipated operational changes which may occur after operational equilibrum conditions are reached.When the total number of bearing pads is an odd number (5, 7, etc.), the support surface for the lowermost and centrally located bearing pad is radially adjustable, and two bearing pads symmetrically located about the lowermost bearing pad and having radially fixed support surfaces are used, one lying contiguous the lowermost centrally located bearing pad on either side thereof. The remaining bearing pads are radially adjustable.

    摘要: An auxiliary bearing structure for temporary use during installation of turbine shafting for temporarily supporting and aligning adjoining flanged ends of two shaft sections to be connected together at the flanges. The auxiliary bearing consists primarily of a bearing yoke located in the centroidal plane of the adjoining shaft sections below the end flanges which rest upon the bearing surface, the latter being pressure lubricated to permit turning of the shaft sections. The bearing yoke is vertically adjustable in the radial direction of the shafting in order to effect the desired alignment and can be fixed in the lateral direction after reaching the position of alignment. Means are also provided for holding the auxiliary bearing yoke in a ''''down'''' position out of contact with the shaft flanges while the turbine is in service.
