    摘要: Compositions and methods are given for delayed breaking of viscoelastic surfactant gels inside formation pores, particularly for use in hydraulic fracturing. Breaking inside formation pores is accomplished without mechanical intervention or use of a second fluid. Acidic internal breakers such as sulfuric acid and nitric acid are used. The break may be accelerated, for example with a free radical propagating species, or retarded, for example with an oxygen scavenger.

More particularly, the present invention relates to additives comprising one or more silicates used to treat tar resident in a well bore, and methods of use. In one embodiment, the present invention provides a method of treating tar resident in a well bore comprising providing a tar-treating additive comprising one or more silicates introducing the tar-treating additive into the well bore; and allowing the tar-treating additive to react with the tar resident in the well bore so as to at least partially reduce the adhesiveness of the tar.

    摘要: A water-base drilling fluid for use in drilling wells through a formation containing a shale which swells in the presence of water. The drilling fluid preferably includes: an aqueous based continuous phase, a weight material, and a shale hydration inhibition agent having the formula: H2N—R—{OR′}x—Y.[H+B−]d in which R and R′ are alkylene groups having 1 to 6 carbon atom and x is a value from about 1 to about 25. The Y group should be an amine or alkoxy group, preferably a primary amine or a methoxy group. The acid H+B− is a protic acid selected from the group consisting of inorganic acids and organic acids, illustrative examples of which include: hydrochloric, hydrobromic, sulfuric, phosphoric, nitric, boric, perchloric, formic, acetic, halogenated acetic, propionic, butyric, maleic, fumeric, glycolic, lactic, citric and combinations of these. The shale hydration inhibition agent should be present in sufficient concentration to reduce the swelling of the shale. Also inclusive of the present invention is a method of reducing the swelling of shale clay encountered during the drilling of a subterranean well, the method comprising circulating in the well a water-base drilling fluid formulated in accordance with the present invention.

    摘要: The present invention provides a modified liquid phase drilling fluid having desirable properties of shale swelling inhibition, lubrication, and high temperature performance. The fluid is comprised of the following: (1) a liquid phase containing: (a) a water phase comprising fresh water, seawater, brine, simulated brine, or mixtures thereof; and (b) a water-soluble component selected from the class consisting of polyhydric alcohols, glycol, glycol ethers, polypropylene glycols, polyethylene glycols, ethylene oxide-propylene oxide copolymers ("EO-PO"), alcohol-initiated EO-PO copolymers and/or mixtures thereof, the ratio of said water-soluble component in the total liquid phase being from about 5% to about 50% by volume; (2) a viscosifier for suspension of solids in said liquid phase; and (3) a filtration control agent.
