摘要: A modular center filler and center plate may be constructed as a unit away from the car and adapted for connection to the center sill webs of a railway vehicle. The center filler has a thick bottom plate which extends beneath the center sill and has pairs of interconnected longitudinal and transverse sill reinforcing plates arranged in a double I-beam manner. The center plate has longitudinally extending attached skirts, and bevels are provided which allow the car to rock at the bevel lines. Forces transmitted through the center plate at the bevels are absorbed and distributed by the associated longitudinal plates and other bolster and center filler structural elements.

摘要: A wear-resistant liner for center plate structure of a railway vehicle is provided and such liner is defined by an ultra high molecular weight polymeric material having a reinforcement embedded in the polymeric material which serves as a matrix for and substantially completely surrounds the reinforcement and the reinforcement comprises a structure having openings therein for receiving the polymeric material completely therethrough and enabling better embedment of the structure, and such structure serves to reinforce and prevent cold flow of the polymeric material.

摘要: A load-carrying railway truck having a longitudinal axis in its direction of travel and including at least one load-bearing member for supporting a load; a pair of live wheelsets supporting the load-bearing member, each wheelset being so mounted in the truck and having such a profile that it is substantially self-steering; means interconnecting the wheelsets to transmit yawing and lateral movements of either wheelset in the opposite sense to the other wheelset; and elastic elements suspending the load to the wheelsets, at least some of the elastic elements having a lateral stiffness in a direction transverse to the longitudinal axis of the truck which is lower than the stiffness provided by them in a direction parallel to the longitudinal axis.

摘要: A six-wheel railway motor truck for swivelly supporting a locomotive body is connected to the same for the effective transmission thereto of draft and braking forces at a level at or near that of the rail whereby the vertical moment arm through which traction forces might act to tip the truck frame and thereby cause load transference from axle to axle is minimized, with corresponding minimization of such load transference. The truck comprises a rigid frame resiliently supported on the three axles, a body support bolster supported on the sides of the truck frame by upright springs and held against swivelling movements or longitudinal movements with respect to the truck frame while being free for limited vertical and transverse movements with respect to the truck frame. Transversely and longitudinally spaced sliding bearings on the bolster slidably engage opposing bearings on the locomotive underframe for holding the bolster against tipping longitudinally or transversely with respect to the underframe and cooperating vertical axis pivot-forming bearings on the underframe and bolster transmit longitudinal forces from the bolster to the underframe and permit swivel of the entire truck with respect to the underframe. For transmitting longitudinal forces from the truck frame to the bolster and hence to the supported longitudinal body substantially at rail level, the truck frame is connected to the bolster at each side by a pair of longitudinally upwardly and outwardly inclined links arranged so that their axial projections intersect at track level.

摘要: A self lubricating liner for railroad car center plate assemblies comprising a bowl shaped member formed from an ultra high molecular weight polymer of dry self lubricating characteristics and shaped to define a floor portion and an upstanding side wall. The liner is stretch resistant and is received within the trunk bolster bowl on the floor of the bowl, it being proportioned to be fit on the bolster center plate and to entirely fill the space between the truck bolster bowl and the body bolster center plate 360.degree. about the side wall of the bowl to preclude high energy impacts between these parts when coupler impacts and train line action are occasioned. The liner side wall is formed to be spaced from the top surfacing of the bowl side wall and make a tight seal about the neck of the bolster center plate. In use, the liner effects resurfacing action on the surfaces engaging same to make them effectively resistant against wear.

摘要: Railway three-axle, three-motor locomotive trucks are provided with a bolster spring-supported on the truck frame for lateral and vertical movement and having a central opening to accommodate the middle axle motor while minimizing the over-all height of the truck, a plurality of vertically nonyielding body-support bearing elements on the bolster spaced apart transversely and longitudinally of the truck to prevent tipping of the bolster relative to the body, a swivel connection between the body on the bolster, and a draft connection between the bolster and truck frame at a level at least as low as the axles to provide low-level transmission of traction forces between the truck frame and bolster and thereby reduce axle-to-axle load transference and thereby improve adhesion.

摘要: A railroad car bolster with provision for elastomeric cushions or pads on each side of the bolster center plate. The pads are mounted in retainers. The side walls of the retainers extend upwardly from the bolster and have substantially continuous uninterrupted upper surfaces. The pads positioned within the retainers have elongated slots which extend along and are slightly spaced from the retainer side walls. Fastening members, in the form of angles, are welded to each retainer side wall, and have a portion thereof which extends along the flat upper surface of the side wall and into the pad slots to thereby secure the pads within the retainers.

摘要: A joint connecting the cars of an articulated rail vehicle to provide a wide smooth-walled passage therebetween regardless of the relative attitudes of the cars. The joint and ends of each car are journaled on the bolster of a common truck. A rigidwalled tunnel assembly mounted on the bolster includes inner and outer telescoping tunnel shell members which are pivoted for relative pitch movement at the bolster. The tunnel shell members each include vertical arcuate surfaces cooperating with similar surfaces on the car ends to seal the ends of the tunnel passage. Side panels vertically hinged to the joint frame assembly are slidable within slots in the car bodies to externally seal the joint and provide a flush external appearance of the vehicle.

摘要: A resilient railway truck and vehicle suspension provides soft body springing while reducing axle to axle load transference. The axle-supported truck frame swivelly mounts a transverse subbolster and a transverse bolster is carried on the sub-bolster by elastomeric pad devices oppositely inclined longitudinally of the truck so that their normals intersect at a level below the axles, preferably about rail level. The bolster supports the body by upright springs at each side of the truck and is restrained against longitudinal movement or tilting movement about its transverse axis with respect to the body so that tipping movements of the truck relative to the body including those necessary to accommodate to changes in vertical track curvature occur about the intersection of the elastomeric pad device normals, thereby reducing or eliminating any vertical moment arm through which the tractive forces might act on the truck to cause objectionable axle to axle load transference.
