    摘要: A hardgeared infinitely variable transmission (IVT) is provided in which at least one quick return mechanism is hardgeared to the rotating transmission input shaft. The quick return mechanisms convert the rotating motion of the transmission input shaft to a variable motion consisting of a near constant linear velocity portion and a rapid return portion for each cycle of input rotation. The near constant linear velocity portion of the motion of each quick return mechanism is selectively engaged to a conversion device which translates the motion to an output rotation. The input/output speed ratio is adjusted by varying the amount and direction of quick return mechanism motion which is selectively engaged to the conversion device. An infinite range of speed ratios can be produced, as well as output rotation in both forward and reverse directions relative to the input rotation.

When the cusp of the tear-drop shaped gear engages the recess in the heart shaped gear, the tear-drop shaped gear is prevented from rotating. The piston assemblies rotate intermittently whereby pistons of the stopped assembly are trailing pistons during portions of the power and intake phases of engine operation. In one embodiment, the tear-drop shaped gear include teeth in the form of rollers (132).

    摘要: A timing mechanism controls various functions of an ice maker through cams carried on a camshaft. A harvest rake that removes ice from a receptacle is coupled to the camshaft to be rotated thereby. The camshaft is driven by a motor which is coupled to the timing mechanism through a pair of non-circular meshing gears. The gears are programmed such that a slower speed is imparted to the camshaft when ice is being removed from the receptacle by the harvest rake. This provides a slower speed but higher torque to the harvest rake during ice removal and a faster, more accurate timing rate during filling of the receptacle.

    摘要: An intermittent drive mechanism includes a pair of non-circular drive and driven gears for translating a constant velocity rotary motion of an input shaft into a non-uniform velocity rotary motion of an intermediate shaft, the latter-mentioned rotary motion having a sinusoidal angular speed pattern, and a harmonic speed reducer drivingly connecting the intermediate shaft to an output shaft which is connected to a flexible spline of the speed reduce. A rigid circular spline of the speed reducer is angularly reciprocated under the control of an eccentric cam on the input shaft in such a manner that the motion of the sinusoidal angular speed pattern is transmitted from the intermediate shaft to the output shaft in a certain decelerated condition only while the intermediate shaft turns through a half of each turn. The motion transmission takes place gently without causing undesired shock at the beginning and the end of the motion.

    摘要: An apparatus grinding a steel billet to remove surface cracks. The billet is advanced in the direction of it longitudinal axis while being rotated. The apparatus includes a grinding wheel mounted in a bearing in a movably mounted support member. In order to accurately and simply control the penetration depth of the grinding wheel, a stop member is mounted on the support member. In one embodiment, the stop member is a segment of a circle mounted eccentrically relative to the grinding wheel. In another embodiment, the stop member is a segment of a spiral mounted coaxially with the grinding wheel. The stop member engages the surface of the billet. Two arrangements are described for rotating the billet at an increased speed while grinding the edge regions.

    摘要: An improved-efficiency, pedal-operated drive mechanism for a bicycle employing an elliptical sprocket used in association with a planetary-type gear drive for providing an elliptical path of travel of the bicycle pedals. The gear arrangement is disposed in a circular frame mounted from the conventional bicycle frame having secured therein, in a stationary position, an internally-toothed ring gear. The planetary-type drive also includes a pair of rotatable pinion gears diametrically meshed with the ring gear and supported in a bearing housing within the frame on respective pedal axles which are each secured to a pedal arm. The motion of the pedals is along an elliptical locus as the pinion gears individually but synchronously rotate in the fixed ring gear. The sprocket which is preferably of elliptical shape is secured to the housing and rotates therewith driving the bicycle with an improved efficiency on the order of 25 percent or more in comparison to the conventional circular drive system.
