摘要:
Pulsato is generated by the acoustical mixing of sounds emitted from two frequency shift channels. In one channel a musical or other signal is frequency shifted upwardly by several Hertz, and in a second channel the frequencies are shifted downwardly by a like amount. The listener perceives a pleasing pulsato effect at a frequency equal to the sum of the frequency deviation introduced in the two channels. In another embodiment, a third channel reproduces the musical signal unshifted in frequency. The sounds emitted from the frequency shift channels interact with the audio output from the third channel to produce a pulsato having a frequency equal to the frequency shift of either channel. As defined herein, ''''pulsato'''' is a term meaning cyclic variation of an otherwise relatively constant component or components of music or musical tones at the rate of from five to eight cycles per second. If the only varied component is frequency characteristic of the tone, then the pulsato is vibrato. If the only varied component is amplitude, then the pulsato is tremolo. Other musical components may be varied to produce pulsato.

Spatial enhancement equipment for connection to existing organs or other electronic musical instruments comprises an artificial reverberation unit having coiled springs and an input transducer including a driving coil. The connection of the driving coil to the output amplifier of the organ includes a series connection of a photoresistor having a capacitor shunted across it. A variable light source applies pulses of light to the photoresistor alternately to cause it to conduct and not conduct. When the photoresistor is not conducting the electrical signals from the organ are applied to the driving coil through the shunt capacitor, introducing a phase shift into the signal. The variable light source is disclosed as a rotating disc having different patterns of opacity on it. A gating arrangement connected in parallel with the reverberation unit prevents noise from activating the power amplifier of the enhancement equipment in the absence of musical input. The gating arrangement includes a gating amplifier driving a filamentary bulb optically coupled to a photoresistor connected between the preamplifier and power amplifier of the enhancement equipment.
摘要:
A device for electrically modifying a musical tone by frequency modulation to provide effects such as the vibrato effect and the Leslie effect on the musical tone signal. The device employs a shift register through which electrical representations of the magnitude of an input signal are periodically sampled, stored, and shifted progressively through a shift register from the input to the output of the device which delays the signal. The trigger pulses which time the sampling and shifting functions of the device are frequency modulated to vary the time delay imposed, thus effecting a frequency modulation of the delayed input tone at the output of the device. In one embodiment, a digital shift register is employed which stores a digital representation of the magnitude of the signal and is connected between an analog-todigital convertor at the input of the device and a digital-toanalog converter at the output of the device. Alternatively, a bucket-brigade type analog shift register is employed which directly stores discrete analog representations of sampled input values and shifts them progressively toward the output. Plural channel devices are provided wherein the time delays are modified differently so that when the outputs of the channel are combined, an enhanced effect is provided. In a two channel device, opposite phase relationships of the modulated trigger pulse signals provide a more realistic vibrato effect.

A carrier wave having a sub-audible frequency is modulated in amplitude by a modulating wave of a tone signal having an audible frequency, thereby producing a resultant modulated output signal including side band components deviated from the original tone signal frequency by a deviation amount equal to the carrier frequency. The frequency of the carrier wave is selected to be much lower than that of the modulating wave. The frequencydeviated signal thus obtained is fed back and admixed with the modulating wave to obtain a multiplicity of frequency-deviated signals. These signals are mixed with the original tone signal to produce an intricate tremolo effect.

In an electronic musical instrument including a tone generator, a vibrato signal generated by a vibrato oscillator is supplied to the tone generator together with a DC voltage proportional to the amplitude of the vibrato signal so as to cause the oscillation frequency of the tone generator to vary by a greater amount above the nominal frequency than below.
摘要:
An electronic organ in which all of the tones generated are applied through an artificial reverberation unit to the output speakers. The reverberation unit includes a pair of coiled springs with a coupling section between two portions of each spring. The reverberation or decay time is varied by an adhesively coated wire which is controllably brought just to rest on the coupling section so as to adhesively grasp the section. Since all of the signal is passed through the springs, the tone generators may be designed to compensate for both the poor frequency and the poor tonal characteristics of the springs, whereby exceedingly low frequency tones can be transmitted through the reverberation unit and have their reverberation time controlled and the metallic sound usually associated with reverberation units obviated.
