A system is arranged for sorting shredder residues of metal-containing wastes, e.g., vehicle bodies. At least parts of the primary material streams produced during the sorting of the shredder light fraction and the shredder heavy fraction in preliminary processes are fed to a common, main process for final processing, at least a ferromagnetic fraction, a fraction containing non-ferromagnetic metals, a granulate fraction, a fiber fraction, and a sand fraction being produced as end products.

The invention concerns a method for separating all categories of polymer materials derived from waste characterised by successive steps and phases, implemented in the following order: sequentially, a grinding step is followed by a cylindrical drum form factor mechanical separation step, which is followed by a first density separation step in parallel steps, followed by energetic cleaning of the polymer materials and ending with a second density separation step in parallel steps. Said polymer materials can, if required, be extruded. The method enables to obtain different categories of polymer materials, and in particular PE, PP, PS, ABS, PP filled at 20 to 40% with PA, PMMA, Xenoy™, PVC.

A process and apparatus for reprocessing mixed plastics, more particularly mixed plastics from household refuse. The material being reprocessed is shredded in a shredding stage, agglomerated in an agglomerator wherein volatile substances are sucked off by suction devices, and the agglomerated material is dried over a drying path. In order to reduce obstructive substances, such as paper and ash, the fine grain portion in particular of the plastics agglomerated is screened off. With the drying process it is possible to produce without wet processing steps which are high in energy consumption a plastics agglomerate of high quality which is suitable for industrial re-use.

A system for employing induction heating to heat a non-magnetic, electrically non-conductive material in situ quickly, uniformly, selectively and in a controlled fashion. Particles which are essential to the improved use of induction heating for this type of application are added to the host material and exposed to high frequency alternating electromagnetic fields such as those produced in an induction coil. The particles are ferromagnetic, having high magnetic permeability and high electrical conductivity. The heat-generating efficiency of these particles when exposed to alternating magnetic fields, permits a smaller volume fraction of these particles in the host material such that the desired properties of the article remain essentially unchanged. Overheating of the article may be prevented by selecting the particle Curie point such that the particle autoregulates at a temperature about equal to the temperature to which the article is to be heated. These particles preferably have the configuration of a flake, i.e., a thin disk-like configuration. This configuration includes a first, second and third orthogonal dimension, wherein the first and second orthogonal dimensions are each greater than the skin depth of the particle and are each at least about 5 times the third orthogonal dimension.
