A method, a device, and a computer program product, for aspect-ratio dependent filtering for intra-prediction include obtaining an aspect ratio of a block to be predicted, wherein the aspect ratio is based on a width of the block and a height of the block, and selecting an interpolation filter for the block to be predicted based on the aspect ratio of the block to be predicted.
Abstract:
The present disclosure provides a method and apparatus for Local Illumination Compensation (LIC) for inter-prediction that uses a MinMax method to derive linear model parameters for the LIC. Values of parameters α and β for the linear model of the LIC are derived, based on reconstructed neighboring samples of the current block and reconstructed neighboring samples of the reference block. When a condition for the value of β is met, the value of α is clipped based on the value of β and the value of β is updated based on the clipped value of α before updating the inter-predicted sample values for the current block.

A method includes obtaining a first control parameter in a sequence parameter set (SPS) level, wherein a first value of the first control parameter in the SPS level indicates that a smoothing is not applied for any block of a sequence, a second value of the first control parameter in the SPS level indicates that the smoothing is applied for each block of the sequence, and obtaining a second control parameter in a slice header when a third value of the first control parameter in the SPS level is equal to a predefined value, wherein a first value of the second control parameter indicates that the smoothing is applied for each block of a slice.

A device is configured to select a directional intra-prediction mode from a set of directional intra-prediction modes, wherein each directional intra-prediction mode corresponds to a different intra-prediction angle. Further, the device is configured to select a filter from a set of filters based on the selected directional intra-prediction mode. Further, the device is configured to determine, for a given prediction sample of the prediction block, a reference sample from a set of reference samples based on the selected directional intra-prediction mode, and apply the selected filter to the determined reference sample.

A video coding block is intra-predicted on the basis of a plurality of primary reference samples from a first set of neighboring video coding blocks. A fitting plane is determined on the basis of the plurality of primary reference samples and defines a plurality of fitting samples. For a selected directional intra prediction mode, a plurality of secondary reference samples are generated on the basis of the plurality of primary reference samples and the plurality of fitting samples. The secondary reference samples are located in a second set of neighboring video coding blocks. The sample values of the current video coding block are predicted on the basis of the plurality of primary reference sample values and the plurality of secondary reference sample values.
