Abstract: In a wireless communication system, carrier aggregation may be used to provide desired amounts of bandwidth, where a primary carrier and one or more secondary carriers are aggregated. At the receive side of a system in which the aggregated carriers are in a single frequency band, an amplifier may be used to apply a common gain to the aggregated carriers in the single frequency band, and the common gain may be determined as a function of indications of received signal quality associated with groups of aggregated carriers containing one or more of the aggregated carriers, where one group contains the primary carrier and possible one or more secondary carriers and another group contains only secondary carriers.

Abstract: Systems, apparatuses, and methods for computing transport block size (TBS) for channels with shortened transmission time interval (sTTI). An initial size may be determined based on one or more TBS tables. The initial size may be scaled by a factor associated with an sTTI channel. A TBS table is selected based on the one or more TBS tables. The scaled size may be rounded based on the selected TBS table to generate a TBS for the sTTI channel.

Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure relate to techniques for estimating a channel using soft-windowing. A user equipment (UE) may determine, based on a cyclic prefix (CP) length of a channel, a timing window for sampling reference signals transmitted on the channel, determine a set of weights to apply to samples obtained within the determined timing window, wherein each weight corresponds to a sample obtained within the determined window, and estimate the channel by applying the weights to the samples.

Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure relate to methods and apparatus relating to intelligent resource assignment to increase throughput in LTE multiple input multiple output (MIMO) and carrier aggregation (CA) capable devices. In certain aspects, a MIMO and CA capable wireless communication device communicates with a base station (BS) on multiple component carriers (CCs) through multiple radio frequency (RF) chains. In such aspects, the device tentatively switches one or more first RF chains, not assigned to a first CC of the multiple CCs, to the first CC for evaluating a rank of the first CC. The device then determines that the first CC has a higher rank indication (RI) with the one or more RF chains. The device subsequently evaluates one or more performance factors, in conjunction with the higher rank, based on which the device then additionally assigns one or more second RF chains to the first CC.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. An exemplary method includes receiving a signal corresponding to a frequency band, scanning for communications activity within the frequency band, wherein scanning for communications activity within the frequency band comprises performing a correlation calculation on samples of the signal, and determining whether to attempt a connection establishment within the frequency band based at least in part on the correlation calculation on samples of the signal. When the scanning identifies an indication of activity, a scanning device may attempt to establish a connection with a base station within the frequency band. When the scanning identifies an indication of no activity, a scanning device may refrain from attempting to establish a connection with a base station within the frequency band, and may perform the correlation-enhanced frequency scanning on a different frequency band.
