Abstract: In an embodiment, an AT monitors a DMTC window of a shared communication medium while refraining from performing any AUL transmissions. The AT selectively transmits one or more AUL transmissions based on the monitoring (e.g., in response to DRS detection, either in one or more subframes of the DMTC window or outside of the DMTC window). In a further embodiment, the AT establishes different LBT contention windows for use during and outside of POWs and/or DMTC windows. In a further embodiment, the AT receives an AUL disable signal instructing the AT to disable AUL transmissions, and the AT refrains from performing one or more AUL transmissions on the shared communication medium in response to the AUL disable signal.

Abstract: Techniques for wireless communication are described. One method includes assigning a downlink subframe that is a first occurring downlink subframe in a data frame; and transmitting an encoded control signal during a first transmission opportunity, the encoded control signal including a common portion for receiving devices, the common portion indicating a structure of the data frame, the encoded control signal further including a device specific portion for a specific receiving device, the device specific portion indicating uplink grants and downlink grants during the data frame for the specific receiving device, where at least the common portion of the encoded control signal is transmitted during the selected downlink subframe.

Abstract: Co-existence mechanisms for shared spectrum and unlicensed spectrum are disclosed. Several base stations, from one or more network operators, share a communication spectrum in a base non-contention procedure state. When a given base station determines that communications with its served user equipments (UEs) suffers a diminished quality, the base station transmits a diminished quality indicator in response. Subsequent communications with the served UEs over the shared spectrum would then occur using a contention-based procedure state triggered by the diminished quality indicator. The triggering of the contention-based procedure may be made by the base station on either sending the diminished quality indicator or receiving a similar indicator from a neighbor base station, or by an indication from a central controller making a determination to initiate contention-based procedures based on flags received from the neighboring base stations.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A base station may transmit a configuration for enhanced paging to a UE being served by a cell over a shared frequency band. The enhanced paging may include multiple paging intervals for each paging cycle. The UE may enable reception for a paging interval and determine whether the UE receives a downlink transmission. The UE may lengthen a paging interval or enable reception during a second paging interval based in part on determining whether the UE receives a downlink transmission. In some examples, the UE may receive a paging queue status indication indicating that paging information will be transmitted during a paging interval or a later interval, or indicating that no paging information is present at a serving cell.

Abstract: Techniques for synchronization on a shared communication medium are disclosed. An access point may select, for example, a common sequence, frequency, and time for a first synchronization signal that is coordinated with one or more other access points. The access point may then transmit the first synchronization signal in accordance with the common sequence, frequency, and time. An access terminal may receive, from an access point, a first synchronization signal having a first sequence and a second synchronization signal having a second sequence. The access terminal may then determine an offset in time between the first synchronization signal and the second synchronization signal, and determine a cell identifier group associated with the access point based on the offset.

Abstract: Techniques for managing access to a shared communication medium are disclosed. Scheduling grants may be sent to different access terminals for different sets of resources for uplink transmission on the communication medium. A series of re-contention gaps may be scheduled for access terminal contention within or between the different sets of resources. Uplink and downlink transmission on the communication medium may be silenced during each of the series of re-contention gaps. Moreover, an access terminal may receive a scheduling grant that allocates a set of resources to the access terminal for uplink transmission on a communication medium and contend for access to the communication medium based on the scheduling grant. The access terminal may then selectively transmit uplink traffic over the allocated set of resources based on the contending.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A user equipment (UE) and a base station operating in unlicensed spectrum may temporarily increase a paging opportunity window (POW) size, or reduce a time between POWs, in order to meet performance metrics or account for time periods when a base station is unable to win access to the wireless medium during a POW. In some cases, a UE may identify a failed listen-before-talk procedure and autonomously update the POW size. In other examples, a base station may initiate a change in POW size or increase a number of paging opportunities in order to meet achieve one or more key performance indicators (KPIs). After a predetermined period, or after a triggering condition is no longer present, the UE and the base station may reset the POW size or the number of paging opportunities to a nominal amount to conserve power.

Abstract: Resources are reserved for handover signaling. Handover reliability is thereby improved since the primary interference for handover signaling will be from the handover signaling of nearby cells (e.g., as opposed to data traffic). Given the relatively sparse nature of handover signaling, a significant reduction in interference may be achieved in a network employing this technique in comparison to conventional networks. In some implementations, a set of neighboring access points cooperate to determine which resources are reserved for handover signaling. In some implementations, resources for handover signaling are reserved on a network-wide basis or an access point cluster-wide basis.
