Abstract: Methods and apparatuses are disclosed for enabling non-persistent communications between devices. A device can receive a first broadcast from a broadcasting device, the first broadcast advertising information identifying the broadcasting device. Security information associated with the broadcasting device is then be obtained based on the received broadcast and the broadcasting device authenticated based on the security information. A second broadcast is received from the broadcasting device wherefrom it can be determined that the broadcasting device is an associated device capable of non-connected communications between the devices. At least one data packet is communicated between the devices subsequent to the second broadcast without establishing a persistent connection between the devices.

Abstract: A second device (12) comprises: a transmitter configured to transmit a first signal to a first device (11); a receiver configured to receive a second signal that has been transmitted by the first device (11); a demodulator configured to demodulate a second message from the second signal, the second message including an indication of signal strength of the first signal as measured by the first device (11); a signal strength measuring module configured to measure signal strength of the received second signal; and a calculator configured to use the indication of the measured signal strength included in the second message and the signal strength of the second signal as measured by the second device (12) to calculate a measure of the distance between the first and second devices (11, 12).

Abstract: In accordance with an example embodiment of the present invention, there is provided an apparatus, comprising a receiver configured to receive a data packet, at least one processing core configured to determine, based on contents of the data packet, a new destination address for the packet, wherein the received data packet does not comprise the new destination address in a header field, the at least one processing core being configured to insert the new destination address into a destination address header field of the data packet, and a transmitter configured to cause the data packet to be transmitted after the new destination address has been inserted. In some embodiments, the new destination address is determined on the basis of a compression context used to compress the data packet.
