    Abstract: Methods and apparatus of resource allocation (RA) for low cost machine communication type (LC-MTC) user equipments (UEs) are provided. A UE obtains one or multiple sets of resources in a mobile communication network. Each set of resources belongs to a narrow sub-band in a wider channel bandwidth, wherein the narrow sub-band comprises a plurality of contiguous physical resource blocks (PRBs). The UE determines a first set of resources from the one or multiple sets of resources based on a physical layer control signaling and transmits or receives radio signals using the first set of resources within a predefined duration. In a coverage extension mode, the UE determines a second set of resources according to a hopping pattern, while the first and the second sets of resources are occupied for transmission at different radio subframes. The UE then transmits or receives radio signals using the second set of resources.

    Abstract: A two-level physical structure is defined for better diversity for both distributed and localized transmission in enhanced physical downlink control channel (ePDCCH). First level is a physical unit of enhanced resource element groups (eREGs), where the group of REs is predefined for each eREG. Second level is a logical unit of enhanced control channel elements (eCCEs), where the group of eREGs is predefined or configurable by higher layer for each eCCE. For distributed transmission of ePDCCH, eCCE consists of several eREGs that are distributed in multiple non-contiguous PRBs spreading over the whole channel frequency. Downlink control information (DCI) is transmitted on a number of aggregated eCCEs according to the modulation and coding level required. The utilization reference signals of antenna ports for ePDCCH demodulation is based on the logical order of eCCEs and the aggregation level for DCI transmission.

    Abstract: A narrow band operation under a larger carrier bandwidth for new radio (NR) system is proposed. The narrow band is named as a narrow virtual carrier (VC), i.e., a wider system bandwidth comprises multiple narrower virtual carriers, and virtual carrier is UE-specific. Further, a unified indication way for VC operation under different system bandwidth (BW) & subcarrier spacing is introduced. UE receives VC configuration from eNB, which comprises an offset direction, an offset value, and a VC BW. In addition, the UE receives VC ON/OFF command from the eNB to determine the activated VCs. Multiple VCs are aggregated by the UE, and the aggregating pattern is indicated by the eNB or determined by the UE.
