Abstract: An antenna configured to operate at millimeter wave frequencies is provided. The antenna includes a substrate and a ground plane. The antenna includes one or more active patch antenna elements that collectively define four corners, wherein the active patch antenna element(s) are positioned on a first surface of the substrate. The antenna includes four parasitic patch elements coplanar to the active patch antenna element(s) and adjacent to each respective corner of the active patch antenna element(s). The antenna includes a switching circuit configured to dynamically couple, to the ground plane, the first parasitic patch element, the second parasitic patch element, the third parasitic patch element, and/or the fourth parasitic patch element.

Abstract: antenna system may include an antenna operable in a selected frequency band of a plurality of frequency bands. In some examples, the antenna system may include an antenna circuit having an RF (radio frequency) communication path and one or more configurable elements in the RF communication path. The antenna system may include a transmission line coupled to the antenna circuit. The antenna system may include a control unit configured to modulate a control signal onto an RF signal to generate a transmit signal for communication over the transmission line to the antenna circuit. The antenna circuit may be configured to demodulate the control signal from the transmit signal. The antenna circuit may be operable to adjust the one or more configurable elements in the RF communication path based at least in part on the control signal to configure the RF communication path to operate in the selected frequency band.

Abstract: A switchable antenna assembly is provided. The switchable antenna assembly includes a substrate, a ground plane disposed on the substrate, and a feed. The switchable antenna assembly includes a first planar antenna element extending from the ground plane in a first direction. The first planar antenna element is coupled to the feed by a first transmission line and is configured to produce a first radiation pattern. The switchable antenna assembly includes a second planar antenna element extending from the ground plane in a second direction orthogonal to the first direction of first planar antenna element and is configured to produce a second radiation pattern. The switchable antenna assembly includes a single pole—two-throw switching element configured to selectively couple one of the first transmission line or the second transmission line to the feed.

Abstract: Dipole antennas for use in the VHF and UHF band are provided. In one example, a dipole antenna includes a linear antenna support. The dipole antenna includes one or more reflector elements positioned on a first section of the antenna support. The dipole antenna includes one or more director elements positioned on a second section of the antenna support. The dipole antenna includes a driven element positioned in a middle section of the antenna support, the middle section being between the first section and the second section. The driven element includes a first leg and a second leg. Each of the first leg and the second leg includes a first conductor extending from the antenna support; a second conductor extending from the first conductor at a direction generally perpendicular to the first conductor; and a third conductor extending from the second conductor.

Abstract: An antenna system is provided. In one example implementation, the antenna system may include a modal antenna that is operable in a plurality of different modes, and each mode may be associated with a different radiation pattern.
