    Abstract: Disclosed biopsy markers are adapted to serve as localization markers during a surgical procedure. Adaptation includes incorporation of materials detectable under ultrasound during surgery, as well as features for co-registration with image guidance or other real-time imaging technologies during surgery. Such biopsy markers, when used as localization markers, improve patient comfort and reduce challenges in surgical coordination and surgery time. Additional disclosed biopsy markers are adapted to serve as monitoring and/or detection apparatuses. Localization of an implanted marker may be done with ultrasound technology. Ultrasound image data is analyzed to identify the implanted marker. A distance to the marker or a lesion may be determined and displayed. The determined distance may be a distance between the ultrasound probe and the marker or lesion, a distance between the marker or lesion and an incision instrument, and/or a distance between the ultrasound probe and the incision instrument.

    Abstract: Methods and systems for identifying a region of interest in breast tissue use artificial intelligence to confirm that a target lesion identified during initial imaging the breast tissue has been identified in a subsequent imaging session. A computing system operating a lesion matching engine uses a machine learning classifier algorithm trained on cases of initial and subsequent two-dimensional or three-dimensional images of lesions. The lesion matching engine analyzes a target lesion identified with initial and a potential lesion identified with current imaging to determine a likelihood that the target lesion is the same as the potential lesion. A confidence level indicator for the lesion match is presented on a display of a computing device to aid a healthcare provider in locating a lesion in breast tissue.

    Abstract: A method of identifying a location of a region of interest within a breast utilizes compressed location coordinates for the region of interest recorded while the breast is under compression during an x-ray imaging procedure such as mammography or tomosynthesis. The compressed location coordinates are converted to uncompressed location coordinates using a mathematical tissue deformation model. The volume and density of the breast affects how the coordinates are translated for use with an ultrasound imaging system. A system including a computing system in communication with an ultrasound imaging system is utilized to perform the method. The resultant predicted location coordinates of the region of interest are used to guide a healthcare provider to potential lesions that are to be examined using ultrasound, where the potential lesions had been previously identified during a screening mammogram.

    Abstract: Examples of the present disclosure describe systems and methods for implementing real-time artificial intelligence (AI) for physical biopsy marker detection. In aspects, the physical characteristics for one or more biopsy site markers may be used to train an AI component of an ultrasound system. The trained AI may be configured to identify deployed markers. When information relating to the characteristics of a deployed marker is input into the ultrasound system, the trained AI may process the received information to create one or more estimated images of the marker, or identify echogenic properties of the marker. During an ultrasound of the site comprising the deployed marker, the AI may use the estimated images and/or identified properties to detect the shape and location of the deployed marker.

    Abstract: Systems and methods for mapping a region of interest within breast tissue utilize multiple layers of information to produce a unique digital fingerprint of breast tissue. X-ray and ultrasound imaging is combined with elastography and Doppler to create an architectural map of a breast including coordinates to mark one or more regions of interest. The architectural map can be utilized during future imaging procedures and surgeries to automatically and virtually indicate the location of previously biopsied lesions. The architectural map can be displayed on a user interface of a computing device to guide a user to the region of interest during imaging.
