Abstract: This invention provides a method, and a network node for implementing the method, for establishing a multi-domain network slice in a telecommunications network, the telecommunications network being an internetwork of a first network domain and second network domain, in which the first network domain and second network domain are of different network types being one of an access network, backhaul network and a core network, wherein a network node includes a network slice database storing data on a plurality of network slices established in the first and second network domains, the method comprising the steps of: the network node receiving data indicating a change to the plurality of network slices established in the first and second network domains and, in response, updating the network slice database; the network node receiving a request from the first network to establish a multi-domain network slice across the first and second network, the multi-domain network slice using a first network slice on a first set of network nodes of the first network and a second network slice operating on a second set of network nodes of the second network, wherein the request includes requirement data for the multi-domain network slice; the network node identifying the second network slice by: retrieving, from the network slice database, network slice capability data for the second network slice, the network slice capability data indicating the second network slice's capability for one or more metrics, comparing the retrieved network slice capability data for the second network slice with requirement data for the multi-domain network slice, and selecting the second network slice based on the comparison; and the network node responding to the request with an identifier for the second network slice.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method (300) of operating a telecommunications network (110-1), said telecommunications network comprising a plurality of nodes (150), and the method comprising the steps of: storing: a set of historic reconfiguration instructions, said instructions having been used to reconfigure the telecommunications network; first status information from each of the plurality of nodes, wherein said first status information is received prior to reconfiguring the telecommunications network according to a given historic reconfiguration instruction; and second status information from each of the plurality of nodes, wherein said second status information is received after reconfiguring the telecommunications network according to the given historic reconfiguration instruction; receiving a new reconfiguration instruction (310); prior to reconfiguring the telecommunications network according to the new reconfiguration instruction, identifying from the set a similar historic reconfiguration instruction having a similarity to the new reconfiguration instruction within a tolerance threshold; comparing the first and the second status information associated with the identified similar historic reconfiguration instruction so as to determine whether the identified similar historic reconfiguration instruction resulted in a detrimental effect to performance of the telecommunications network; in dependence on whether the identified similar historic reconfiguration instruction resulted in a detrimental effect, calculating a success confidence metric for the new reconfiguration instruction, said metric representing a probability that a reconfiguration instruction does not result in a detrimental effect to performance of the telecommunications network (320); and if the success confidence metric is: greater than a predetermined threshold value, reconfiguring the telecommunications network according to the new reconfiguration instruction (350); or less than a predetermined threshold value, preventing reconfiguration of the telecommunications network according to the new reconfiguration instruction (360).

Abstract: A method of establishing a telecommunications service between a client and a server. The method comprises receiving a request at a first domain for the telecommunications service and providing, by the first domain, a first function for establishing part of the telecommunications service. A process is repeatedly performed until a path is established between the client and the server via a plurality of domains comprising the first domain. The process comprises a domain identifying and instructing a subsequent domain to provide a further function for establishing the telecommunications service, and using the subsequent domain as the domain for a subsequent iteration of the process. The telecommunications service is established between the client and server via the plurality of domains

Abstract: A method of managing allocation of a User Equipment (UE) to a network slice of a telecommunications network, the telecommunications network having a plurality of network slices, wherein the UE is allocated to a first network slice to process a network communication from the UE, the method comprising the steps of: monitoring a suitability of the first network slice to process the network communication; identifying a second network slice that is suitable for processing the network communication; and in response to identifying a lack of suitability of the first network slice to process the network communication, registering the UE with the second network slice prior to registering the UE with the first network slice.
