    摘要: Two-terminal multi junction photodetectors and focal plane arrays for multi-color detection or imaging acquisition can be formed by connecting photodiodes with different bandgaps or wavelengths, through tunnel diodes, in series with the same polarization. Under reverse bias in the dark, the total current going through such multi junction photodetectors is dictated by the smallest reverse saturation current of the photodiodes. When in operating mode, a set of light sources with different wavelengths corresponding to each individual photodiode can be used to optically bias all the photodiodes except the detecting photodiode Under illumination, all other photodiodes work in the photovoltaic mode and have much higher maximum possible reverse currents than the detecting photodiode. As a result, the total current of the multi junction photodetector is dictated by the detecting photodiode. Therefore, a total current can be read by, for example, read-out circuits to give the optical signal strength at that specific wavelength of the detecting photodiode. By using an algorithm one can use such multi junction photodetectors to detect different wavelengths and to take multicolor images.

This allows for very thin modules whose thickness is comparable to the height of the solar energy collector. This eliminates eliminating the depth requirements inherent in traditional concentrated photovoltaic solar energy systems.

    摘要: An electron emitter provides a photocell having at least one photosensitive side, an electron accelerator, an electron collector disposed between the photosensitive side of the photocell and the electron accelerator, a non-metallic vacuum chamber having an adjustable vacuum containing the photocell, the electron accelerator and the electron collector; and a light source to excite electrons on the photosensitive side of the photocell. Upon light activation, infrared light strikes the photocell, causing electrons to be excited and released. The highly positively charged electron accelerator will attract the electrons under sufficient vacuum conditions. Some of the electrons travelling towards the electron accelerator will encounter the electron collector and be collected thereon. The device may be used as a rectifier or regulator to replace vacuum tubes such as for audio amplifiers and high voltage devices. It may also have application as an x-ray generator, an electron microscope or a display screen.

    摘要: An electron beam pumped laser including a surface-emitting laser faceplate oriented at a non-perpendicular angle. Embodiments are described in which a bending coil bends the electron beam, or in which the faceplate is situated in the direct path of the e-beam emission but with a non-zero orientation angle. The faceplate may include a substantially opaque substrate, and an opaque heat-removing structure may be attached to the substrate to provide high heat transfer, thereby allowing high electron-beam pumping intensity and providing more light emission from a smaller package. In some embodiments the partially reflective mirror comprises a metal layer that has a plurality of openings. Multiple laser faceplates (e.g., red, green, and blue) may be placed in the same tube, to provide a continuous light source for projection television. The substrate may be connected to ground to provide an exit path for electrons from the laser gain layer.
