摘要: A capsule comprising a capsule wall and an electrophoretic fluid encapsulated by the capsule wall. The capsule wall comprises a cross-linked nonionic, water-soluble or water-dispersible polymer. The electrophoretic fluid comprises a suspending fluid, first pigment particles, second pigment particles, and third pigment particles. In some embodiments, the electrophoretic fluid includes a fourth electrophoretic particle. The first, second, and third particles are electrically charged, suspended in the suspending fluid, and capable of moving through the suspending fluid upon application of an electric field to the capsule.

摘要: A color electrophoretic display with distinct switching areas formed by a segmented top plane electrode opposite driving pixel electrodes. The distinct areas are programmed to switch at different times, thereby reducing the “flashiness” seen by a viewer during an image update. In one embodiment, the color electrophoretic medium of the display includes a reflective white particle and three other sets of particles, each comprising a different subtractive color.

摘要: Improved electro-optic devices are disclosed comprising an electrophoretic material layer comprising electrophoretic medium disposed between electrodes, and a conductive edge seal. The conductive edge seal is not only used to prevent ingress of moisture in the device, but also to electrically connect the electrodes. An improved method of producing an electro-optic device having conductive edge seal is also disclosed.

Specifically, a combination of a first atomic layer deposition (ALD) step, a sputtering step, and a second ALD step result in a layer that is chemically robust and nearly pinhole free. The dielectric layer may be disposed on the transparent common electrode of an electrophoretic display or covering the pixelated backplane electrodes, or both.

摘要: A variable transmission film may include an electrophoretic medium having a plurality of capsules and a binder, each capsule containing a plurality of electrically charged particles and a fluid, the charged particles being movable by application of an electric field and being capable of being switched between an open state and a closed state. The film may include at least one of a binder containing fish gelatin and a polyanion; a binder containing one or more tinting agents; capsules containing charge control agents, such as an oligoamine-terminated polyolefin and a branched chain fatty acid comprising at least 8 carbon atoms; a selection of capsules in which at least 60% have a diameter between 50 μm and 90 μm and at least 15% have a diameter between 20 μm and 49 μm; a tinted adhesive layer; and a fluid selected from one or more nonconjugated olefinic hydrocarbons.

摘要: A composite particle is provided that comprises a base particle comprising at least a pigment or dye and cross-linked polyurea, a plurality of hydrophilic oligomeric groups, and a plurality of amine groups on the exterior portion of the base particle, and a steric stabilization polymer which is chemically bonded or physi-sorbed on the surface of the base particle. The cross-linked polyurea may form a network throughout the base particle. A method of making the composite particle includes providing either a solution containing a dye or a dispersion containing a pigment in a water-dispersible polyfunctional isocyanate dissolved in a water-miscible solvent, forming an emulsion of the solution/dispersion in water, agitating the emulsion while the polyfunctional isocyanate is converted into a cross-linked polyurea, and separating the composite particle containing the cross-linked polyurea and the dye/pigment from the emulsion.

摘要: A control method of an electronic ink screen includes: outputting a first color driving signal to pixel(s) expected to display a first color in the electronic ink screen. The first color driving signal includes a first dither signal and a first color first pull-up signal in adjacent periods. The first dither signal includes a first rectangular wave signal, a first electric field cancellation signal and a first constant voltage signal. The first constant voltage signal is configured to drive first color charged particles in the pixel(s) expected to display the first color to move toward a side proximate to a display surface of the electronic ink screen, and the first color first pull-up signal is configured to drive the first color charged particles in the pixel(s) expected to display the first color to move toward the side proximate to the display surface of the electronic ink screen.
