摘要: A drilling tool having a body, at least one blade extending from the body, and a first cutting element attached to the at least one blade. The first cutting element includes a cutting face at an opposite axial end from a base, a side surface extending from the base to the cutting face, an edge formed at the intersection between the cutting face and the side surface, and an elongated protrusion formed at the cutting face and extending between opposite sides of the edge. The elongated protrusion has a geometry including a border extending around a concave surface, a face chamfer formed around the border, and sloped surfaces extending between the border and the edge. An edge chamfer is between the face chamfer and the edge.

摘要: A reaming tool forms a hole in the ground with a sidewall and a floor, and a deepened channel around the perimeter of the floor adjacent to sidewall. Fluid is provided during excavation to form a slurry to hold the sidewall and prevent cave-in of material into the hole. After the hole reaches a desired depth, the reaming tool is removed, and a shoring wall is inserted into the hole through the slurry and seated in the perimeter edge channel. The shoring wall includes vertical tubes for connection to a dewatering machine. Then, the slurry can be vacuumed from the hole, while the dewatering machine keeps the empty hole as dry as possible. Extending the shoring wall into the channel beyond the floor of the hole helps seal flow of water from entering the hole.

摘要: A full-face shaft tunnel boring machine system includes a tunnel boring machine cutterhead device for tunneling downwards in a shaft; a full-hydraulic formwork device for supporting and walling in a wellbore; and an upper muck-discharge system for vertically conveying rock mucks generated by tunneling. The tunnel boring machine cutterhead device comprises a vertical guide frame, a cutter-expanded boring head and an advanced cutterhead that are fixedly connected in a vertical order from top to bottom so as to form an integrated structure. The vertical guide frame is a hollow cylindrical structure and driven to rotate around an axis of the vertical guide frame by a power mechanism, and an outer wall of the vertical guide frame is provided with multiple sets of first guide rollers.

摘要: A reamer for drill string pullback of a horizontal directional drill includes a shaft portion defining a central axis and a first end configured for attachment with a drill string of the horizontal directional drill. A plurality of vanes extend radially from an outer periphery of the shaft, each of the plurality of vanes defining an outer peripheral tooth base surface. On each of the plurality of vanes, a plurality of cutter teeth are individually and removably secured along the outer peripheral tooth base surface thereof, each one of the plurality of cutter teeth including a body and a PDC insert manufactured separately from the body and joined therewith. Each cutter tooth of the plurality is coupled to the respective one of the plurality of vanes by a removable fastener extending at least partially through the cutter tooth and at least partially through the one of the plurality of vanes.

摘要: A drill bore protection device and method for protecting a drill bore are provided. The drill bore protection device includes an elongated member. The elongated member is defined by a front end and a rear end. A first sleeve is placed on the elongated member next to the front end of the elongated member. Additionally, a second sleeve is placed on the elongated member next to the rear end of the elongated member. The first sleeve and the second sleeve each have an open end and a closed end. The closed ends of the first sleeve and the second sleeve face the front end of the elongated member, while the open ends of the first sleeve and the second sleeve face the rear end of the elongated member. The first sleeve defines a first interior cavity. A liner is disposed in the first interior cavity of the first sleeve.

摘要: In a drill bit which has hard-faced cutting or gauge protection elements positioned to be in direct contact with subterranean formation as the bit is rotated, at least one of these elements includes a window positioned to be in direct contact with the formation or cuttings from the formation as the bit rotates and moves forward to drill into the formation. Electromagnetic radiation with wavelength in the range from 100 nm to 2600 nm is transmitted through the window to the formation in contact with the window. Electromagnetic radiation such as fluorescence that returns through the same window is received by a spectrometer. The source and receiver of electromagnetic radiation are both accommodated within the downhole drilling equipment but spaced from the windowed element. The electromagnetic radiation travels along light guides from the source to the window and from the window to the receiver.

摘要: Methods for operating drill strings in a wellbore include providing a drilling apparatus that includes a Kelly drive system for rotating the drill string that includes a bottom hole assembly (BHA) and a Kelly engaged with the Kelly drive system. The BHA includes a hydraulically driven rotating string reamer coupled to the drill string uphole from a drill bit and a near-bit reamer. The hydraulically driven rotating string reamer includes a hydraulic drive operatively coupled to a string reamer. The methods include translating the BHA axially through the wellbore and, while translating the BHA, circulating drilling fluid through the drill string, which causes the hydraulic drive to rotate the string reamer relative to the drill string, drill bit, and near-bit reamer. Rotation of the string reamer by the hydraulic drive reams away imperfections extending radially inward from a wellbore wall of the wellbore.

摘要: A drilling system, assembly, and method may help optimize drilling in a system that involves more than one rotary tool that engages the formation. A rotary tool may be a rotary cutting tool, such as a drill bit or reamer, or some other rotary tool (e.g. stabilizer or rotary steerable tool) that has the potential to drag on the wall of the hole being drilled and take energy away from cutting. In an example, a wellbore or portion thereof is formed by rotating a first rotary cutting tool having a first cutting structure in engagement with one portion of the formation together with a second rotary cutting tool having a second cutting structure in engagement with another portion of the formation. Forces are obtained above and below the second cutting structure. One or more drilling parameter or drill bit design parameter are adjusted in relation to a force differential between the forces above and below the second cutting structure.

A plurality of reaming blocks is attached to the reaming tool body at circumferentially spaced apart locations. At least one reaming block comprises at least a first row of gouging cutters and a second row of gouging cutters. The gouging cutters in the first row define a first profile. The gouging cutters in the second row define a second profile. The first row is rotationally ahead of the second row. The first profile at any longitudinal position along the at least one reaming block defines a larger reaming diameter than the second profile.
