摘要: Fluke drive system for a vessel (100), comprising a pivot element (114) having a forward end and an aft end, which pivot element (114) is pivotally connected at the forward end to a hull (101) of the vessel (100) and which pivot element (114) is connected at the aft end to a flexible fluke (125); a driving mechanism having a drive point (120), which driving mechanism is arranged to impart a reciprocal or rotary movement to the drive point (120); and a drive rod (121) having a first end and a second end, which drive rod (121) is connected at the first end to the drive point (120) and at the second end to the pivot element (114), which second end is connected to the pivot element (114) at a point (122) along the pivot element (114) between said forward and aft ends. The invention is characterized in that the driving mechanism comprises a carrier element (112) fastened to a propeller axle (111) of the vessel (100) and being arranged to rotate with the said propeller axle (111), and in that the said drive point (120) is excentrically arranged on the carrier element (112) so that a rotation of the propeller axle (111) will drive the drive rod (122) back and forth, in turn resulting in a reciprocal up and down motion of the flexible fluke (125). The invention also relates to a method.

摘要: A water propulsion apparatus operatively connected to a body moving on or through a body of water, may produce a propulsive force by sweeping fins in an oscillating motion in a generally transverse direction relative to a longitudinal axis of the body. The fins may be mounted on opposite sides of a frame and are rotatable about a first axis coplanar to the center longitudinal axis of the frame. Drive members rotatable about a second axis that is canted relative to the first axis may be operatively connected to the fins. The oscillatory motion of the fins may be controlled by torque applied at the canted second axis by reciprocating the drive members in a generally vertical plane parallel to the center longitudinal axis of the frame. The oscillating fins may provide a propulsive force during both oscillating directions of the fins as they sweep back and forth.

摘要: A watercraft having propulsion means extending below the water line comprising a pair of flexible fins each adapted to oscillate through an arcuate path in a generally transverse direction across the central longitudinal dimension of the watercraft. As input force is applied, the fins twist to form an angle of attack for providing forward thrust while moving in both directions along the arcurate path. Each of the fine have a generally squared off top and preferably an outer area of harder rubber than the inner area. Each of the fins can be adjusted at the trailing edge to provide adjustable tensioning of the trailing edge.

摘要: A watercraft for moving along a direction of movement on water includes a flexible fin with a front face and a rear face to be disposed in the water; and one end of the fin is movable along a line in a reciprocating motion along a direction transverse to the front and rear faces and the direction of movement of the watercraft, causing an opposite free end of the fin to flex back and forth in the water to propel the watercraft in the direction of movement.

摘要: A vibration-powered device adapted for flotation and propulsion on an upper surface in a liquid. The device having a body with a top side adapted to be at least partially disposed above the surface of the liquid, and a bottom side adapted to be at least partially submerged below the surface of the liquid. A vibration mechanism is disposed in the body. A propulsion fin is connected to the body. The fin includes a top side adapted to be disposed at least partially above the liquid surface, a bottom side adapted to be disposed at least partially below the surface. The vibration mechanism is adapted to oscillate the free distal end of the propulsion fin upward and downward.

摘要: A manually-operable reciprocating rowing system having a reversible oar for forward or reverse propulsion. The oar has a plurality of pivoting blades mounted in a housing and movable between open and closed positions with each stroke of the oar. In the open position, the blades are positioned to allow water passage through the housing, while in the closed position, the blades are positioned to obstruct water passage through the housing. Gates are provided for stopping the pivoting movement of the blade at the blade housing. A reversing mechanism selectively pivots the gates to allow the blades to pass from one side to an opposite side of the housing, thereby allowing propulsion in a reversed direction.

摘要: The invention comprises a scalable, configurable “propulsor” system. A propulsor system is an assembly of individual propulsors that act in concert to form a substantially continuous control surface that undulates in a working fluid. Each propulsor is driven and configured by computer-controlled actuators so that the control surface undulates in various wave forms. Optional actuators that may refine the surface shape include an “orientation” actuator that drives rotation about the propulsor's longitudinal axis, and a “geometry” actuator that controls each propulsor's geometric configuration.
