Abstract: A fishing tackle bait keeper for a fishing hook includes an anchor and an extension member. The anchor has a sleeve with first and second ends, and plural ribs coupled to the first end. The ribs project in a diverging arrangement from the first end of the sleeve in a direction opposite of the sleeve first end. The ribs each have a free end. The ribs move from a deployed position to a retracted position, wherein when the ribs are in the retracted position, the ribs are oriented with the sleeve to allow insertion of the bait keeper into a bait, and wherein when the ribs are in the deployed position, the ribs extend out from the sleeve to resist being removed from the bait, the ribs are normally in the deployed position. The extension member is coupled to the sleeve and having an attachment portion for coupling with the hook.

Abstract: A live-crustacean holding fishing device and methods of making it are disclosed. The device includes a clasp attached to a long shank fishing hook. The clasp has a shell grasping portion at one end and is attached to tubular stretchable hook-casing at the other. The hook-casing has an attached ring tab. A live crustation is attached by fitting the shell grasping portion of the clasp between the carapace and first segment of the abdomen, then stretching the hook-casing so that the ring tab fits over the shrimp's horn. This secures the live crustation to the hook, but allows it to live and swim freely thereby serving as a live lure. The clasp is either glued to, or molded around, the shank of the hook. The hook-casing is secured to the clasp either by an adhesive or by lateral openings that fit over lateral protrusions on the clasp.

Abstract: A live bait zip tie is an apparatus used to bridle-rig a hook to a bait fish. The apparatus is configured to hold the hook in position, so that the hook cannot rotate or swivel. The apparatus includes a prong, a ratchet band, a hook-bracing fixture, a band-receiving head, and a pawl. The prong allows the user to puncture through a bait fish. The ratchet band engages with the pawl to tighten the apparatus against a bait fish. The hook-bracing fixture allows a hook to secure against the body of a bait fish. The band-receiving head allows for connection of the prong and ratchet band. The pawl is a unidirectionally biased protrusion that allows for tightening engagement with the ratchet band. This configuration allows the apparatus to bridle-rig a hook to a bait fish so that the hook does not move during fishing activity.

Abstract: A novel fishing tackle rig generally consisting of an open-eye formed by double “U” bends on the shaft of a hook or other tackle, a hook-shield which threads onto a fishing line with a hollow rear section to slide over the open-eye, a solid front section to provide structure, and a pin extending perpendicular to secure the hook-shield to the bait, and a cone shaped bait protecting device where the narrow end threads onto the fishing line and the wide end fits over the bait and other components of fishing tackle holding everything together. In an alternative embodiment, the hook-shield is replaced by integrating onto the shaft of the hook or other tackle a closing mechanism that slides along the shaft from an open position to a closed position that completes the open-eye.

In an alternative embodiment, the hook-shield is replaced by integrating onto the shaft of the hook or other tackle a closing mechanism that slides along the shaft from an open position to a closed position that completes the open-eye. In preferred embodiments there is a grooved indention around the outside circumference of the wide end of the cone which may accept an O-ring, rubber band, or some other means of attaching a skirt or other attractant. Also in preferred embodiments the bait protecting device features a bait holder attached to the narrow end of the cone via a hinging mechanism that allows the free end of the bait holder to penetrate through the bait protecting device and into the bait at the wide end of the cone, and thereby secure the bait protecting device to the bait.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for luring fish with an artificial bait are described. An artificial bait may include a top portion, a bottom portion, and a washer to prevent a knotted line from slipping through. In one embodiment, an artificial bait may include a top portion in the form of a tapered cylinder, a bottom portion comprising a plurality of appendages, and a washer. Some examples of the artificial bait may also include one or more fins attached to the top portion. The washer may prevent a fishing line from slipping through the artificial bait when it is being pulled through the water.

Abstract: A bait grasping device for fishing includes first and second grasping members pivotally engaged together with a spring. The spring is tensioned by the pivotal rotation of the first and second inwardly directed prongs of the lower portion of the first and second grasping members away from each other. The spring exerts compression force to position the first and second inwardly directed prongs together to grasp bait. A hook assembly having a hook, an elongate member and an eyelet, is engaged to the first and second grasping members by passing the elongate member through the first and second grasping members and the spring. The hook is disposed proximate to a head of the bait and the first and said second inwardly directed prongs grasp opposite sides of the bait.
