摘要: A method and apparatus is proposed for accurately evaluating the performance of optical transmitters under test conditions (such as high bit-rate modulation formats) that compromise the operability of standard test equipment used for this purpose. The proposed apparatus and method are similar to the elements associated with existing testing standards based on an optical eye diagram, with an important distinction that allows for accurate measurements of the transmitter's performance to be made. In particular, the sampling point for collecting eye diagram data samples in the inventive arrangement is shifted by half a period with respect to the conventional mid-eye sampling point, eliminating the need to include representative reference equalizer in the test equipment and providing an evaluation not influenced by the test equipment, resulting in a more accurate measurement of transmitter-related distortions.

摘要: In order to detect a terminal station in which a failure has occurred in a WDM optical transmission system that transmits optical signals transmitted thereto from a plurality of terminal stations after performing wavelength multiplexing of said optical signals, this failure detection device includes: an input unit that receives first optical signals from the plurality of terminal stations, the first optical signals having wavelengths respectively allocated to the plurality of terminal stations on the basis of allocation information, and that joins the received first optical signals; a monitoring unit that outputs monitoring signals, which are signals that are in accordance with the intensities corresponding to the respective wavelengths of the joined first optical signals; and an identifying unit that identifies a first terminal station from the plurality of terminal stations on the basis of the allocation information and the monitoring signals.

摘要: Disclosed are apparatuses and testing methods for emulating an Optical Network Terminal (ONT) device for communicating or otherwise working with an Optical Line Terminal (OLT) device that was configured to operate with the ONT device. Such emulation may include configuring various settings of the apparatus so that the apparatus may appear to the OLT to be the ONT device. For example, the emulation may include accessing and using authentication/authorization related settings and network configuration settings of the ONT, thus permitting the apparatus to connect to a Passive Optical Network and test services and the quality of service experience without having to reconfigure the OLT.

摘要: Presented herein are techniques to manage optical network infrastructure. A method includes inducing a predetermined vibration on a fiber optic cable, the predetermined vibration being sufficient to cause a change to at least one of a state of polarization and a phase of optical signals being carried by respective optical fibers in the fiber optic cable, detecting, at a first endpoint, using a first coherent optical receiver, and at a second endpoint, using a second coherent optical receiver, the change to the at least one of the state of polarization and the phase of the optical signals, and based on the detecting, determining that the first endpoint and the second endpoint are connected to, or in communication with, one another via at least one finer in the fiber optic cable.

摘要: An optical transceiver includes processing circuitry to calculate, when test signals are sent to a transmission line from a transmitter and a receiver receives the test signals having passed through a wavelength filter, a bandwidth of the received test signals, the transmitter generating, as the test signals, a collection of narrowband signals, the narrowband signals having a narrower bandwidth than a bandwidth of the wavelength filter and having different frequencies, and the wavelength filter included in an optical splitter inserted in the transmission line, and the collection of narrowband signals including a narrowband signal having a higher frequency than a highest frequency in the bandwidth of the wavelength filter and a narrowband signal having a lower frequency than a lowest frequency in the bandwidth of the wavelength filter, and to determine a modulation rate and a modulation level of the transmission signal depending on the calculated bandwidth.

摘要: According to examples, a fiber-optic testing source for testing a multi-fiber cable may include a laser source communicatively coupled to a plurality of optical fibers connected to a connector. The fiber-optic testing source may include at least one photodiode communicatively coupled to at least one of the plurality of optical fibers by at least one corresponding splitter to implement a communication channel between the fiber-optic testing source and a fiber-optic testing receiver. The communication channel may be operable independently from a polarity associated with the multi-fiber cable. The fiber-optic testing receiver may include a plurality of photodiodes communicatively coupled to a plurality of optical fibers. The fiber-optic testing receiver may include at least one laser source communicatively coupled to at least one of the plurality of optical fibers by at least one corresponding splitter to implement the communication channel between the fiber-optic testing receiver and a fiber-optic testing source.

In the equiprobability processing, the two-dimensional dispersion signal and the two-dimensional input signal are classified, so that numbers of constellation points of the two-dimensional input signal and the two-dimensional dispersion signal of same classes are identical, and the classified two-dimensional input signal and two-dimensional dispersion signal are sorted, so that the equiprobability processed signal maintain joint probability distribution.
