The negative temperature dependency of the torque ripple correction capability of a known drive circuit is offset by making the amplitude of input voltage signals applied to a m-differential amplifier of the drive circuit positively temperature-dependent to improve the overall torque ripple correction capability of the circuit so that deteriorated torque ripples at low temperature and increase in the level of reactive currents at high temperature may be effectively eliminated. Moreover, since temperature induced deformation of waveforms of electric currents to be carried to soft switching coils of the drive circuit is minimized, a too rapid switching speed at low temperature is avoided to suppress generation of electric as well as mechanical noises, while too dull waveforms of electric currents at high temperature are also eliminated.

A method and circuit arrangement for the sensor-less detection of the angle of rotation of a synchronous machine without a damper is disclosed. According to the disclosed method and circuit arrangement, measuring signals are used which correspond to voltage jumps or pulses generated by a rectifier and the measuring data obtained are provided to a calculating device which calculates the position of the rotor from the dependence of the stator reactance, whereby premagnetization is set when the synchronous machine is started and a measurement is made on each field weakening and strengthening effect. The advantage of the invention resides in both its high precision and the fact that no additional analog current sources are needed to locate the magnet wheel. In addition, the magnet wheel can be located at any load.

A motor control unit having an anti-burning device is provided which includes a rotation detection device for detecting whether the rotational speed of a given motor is below a predetermined level, a power supply limiting device for limiting the time of supplying current to the motor according to its rotational speed when the speed has been detected by the rotation speed detection device to be below the predetermined level. Thereby, the motor is prevented from burning, deteriorating in performance or shortening in life when the motor is overloaded. Also, the rotation detection device detects the condition when the motor is not rotating, and a cyclic power supply device for supplying current at a given cycle when the motor has been found to be not rotating by the aforementioned rotation detection device. Thereby, if the motor has been locked under an overload condition the motor can be readily restarted automatically when the load has been relieved.

A circuit and method are provided for automatically adjusting a commutation delay from events indicating a position of a polyphase dc motor. The circuit includes a driver to supply drive current to selected stator coils of said motor. A sequencer is connected to control the driver to apply drive current to selected motor coils to rotate the motor. Motor position detecting circuitry is connected to detect the events indicating the position of the motor. A commutation delay circuit is connected to increment the sequencer in response to the detection of the events indicating the position of the motor detected by the motor position detecting circuitry. A circuit for adjusting the delay of said commutation delay circuit between each event and each sequencer commutation provides optimum motor commutation for maximum power efficiency.According to the method, drive current is supplied to selected stator coils of said motor in predetermined commutated sequences to rotate the motor. Events are detected indicating the position of the motor, and the delay between each position indicating event and each commutation sequence is automatically adjusted to provide optimum motor commutation for maximum power efficiency.
