    摘要: A planar antenna that facilitates directional communication to a mesh network. The antenna is housed in a relatively small, planar package that can easily be attached to a window pane to enable the antenna to communicate with a neighboring rooftop mounted node of the mesh network. The package contains an M by N element phased array, where M and N are integers greater than one. The array is driven by microwave signals supplied from a P-angle phase shifting circuit, where P is an integer greater than one. Thus, the antenna synthesizes a single main beam and the antenna's main beam can be electrically nullpointednull in one of P directions. In one embodiment of the invention, the array comprises 40 physical elements (8null5 elements) and has three selectable directions (i.e., the phase shifters provide null90, 0 and null90 degree shifts that move the beam left 45 degrees, center and right 45 degrees).

    摘要: A first ground-plane portion, on which an antenna element is disposed, is arranged above a second ground-plane portion with a predetermined distance therebetween. The first ground-plane portion operates as a parasitic antenna. The antenna element includes a dielectric substrate, a patch electrode provided on the top surface of the dielectric substrate, a ground electrode provided on substantially the entire bottom surface of the dielectric substrate, and current-feed pins that extend through the dielectric substrate and that are connected to the patch electrode. The first ground plane is defined by a conductor layer, which is provided on the top surface of a circuit board. The size of the ground-plane portion and the height of a support are appropriately set so that the first ground-plane portion is excited at a frequency that is substantially equal to a frequency at which the patch electrode is excited when current is fed.

The first meandering portion and one of the capacitive conductor portions are locally opposed to each other to form a capacitive coupling portion. The first meandering portion receives high-frequency power through its bottom end. The second meandering portion is formed to have a smaller pitch than the first meandering portion, and continues to the upper end of the first meandering portion. One capacitive conductor portion formed on a front surface continues to the upper end of the second meandering portion, while the other capacitive conductor portion is formed on a back surface and connected with the former capacitive conductor portion via through holes.

The printed circuit board antenna of the present invention includes a circuit board subassembly having a component mounting section and an antenna section. The antenna section of the circuit board includes a pair of antenna traces that function as two sides of a dipole antenna. Each antenna trace includes a radiating strip where the combination of the pair of radiating strips has a length less than one-half the wavelength of the desired radiation being transmitted. Each antenna trace includes an impedance matching strip having a serpentine structure and coupled to the radiating strip. The impedance matching strip matches the desired impedance for the antenna driving circuit.

A pattern multiplication for fractile arrays is employed wherein a product formulation is derived for the radiation pattern of a fractile array for a desired stage of growth. The pattern multiplication for fractile arrays is recursively applied to construct higher order fractile arrays. An antenna array is then formed based on the results of the recursive procedure.
