    摘要: A device for producing plasma in a vacuum chamber (13) with the help of electromagnetic alternating fields, in which a rod-shaped conductor (3) that is inside a pipe (2) and is made of an insulating material and is guided into the vacuum chamber (13). The inner diameter of the insulating pipe (2) is larger than the diameter of the conductor (3). The insulating pipe (2) is held in the wall (1) of the vacuum chamber (13) at one end, and its outer surface is sealed across from the vacuum chamber wall. The conductor (3) is connected to a source (9) for producing the electromagnetic alternating field. A pipe-shaped conductor (4) extends coaxially to the rod-shaped conductor (3) in the annulus formed by the rod-shaped conductor (3) and the insulating pipe (2), whereby the radial inner ring slot (14) formed between the rod-shaped conductor (3) and the pipe-shaped conductor (4) corresponds to the waveguide (10) of the source (9). The radial outer ring slot (15) formed by the insulating pipe (2) and the pipe-shaped conductor (4) is connected to the waveguide (10′) of a second source (8).

The devices may be part of a flat panel display device that also includes a substrate, a cathode conductive layer disposed over the substrate, an array of emitter tips each formed from an emitter layer disposed over the substrate, a conductive gate structure disposed over the cathode conductive layer, an array of apertures formed through the conductive gate structure, and an anode panel for emitting light in response to electrons emitted from the array of emitter tips.

    摘要: A cathode assembly (43) for a computed tomography scanning system (10) is provided. The cathode assembly (43) includes a one-piece tab assembly (52) for simple and relatively quick installation on a cathode cup (44). In one embodiment, the one-piece tab assembly (52) has two rail portions (56) extending substantially across its length. These rail portions (56) are intended for insertion into channels (50) formed within the cathode cup (44) and for properly locating the one-piece tab assembly (52) in a desired position relative to the filament (46). The assembly (52) further includes two tab portions (58, 58″) located on opposing ends of the rail portions (56). The tab portions (58, 58″) each include a main body portion (62) and a flap portion (54) extending from the main body portion (62). The main body portion (62) extends between the two rail portions (56) and has a mounting surface for attaching the one-piece tab assembly (52) to the cathode cup (44). The flap portions (54) extend substantially perpendicular from the main body portions (62) and direct the electron beam emitted by the filament (46).

    摘要: An electron lens is used for focusing electrons from a cathode to an anode. The lens includes a first conductive layer with a first opening at a first distance from the cathode. The first conductive layer is held at a first voltage. The lens also includes a second conductive layer with a second opening at a second distance from the first conductive layer and a third distance from the anode. The second conductive layer is held at a second voltage substantially equal to the voltage of the anode. The first and second openings are chosen based on the first voltage, the second voltage, the first distance, the second distance and the third distance. The opening focuses the electrons emitted from the cathode onto the anode to a spot size preferably less than 40 nanometers. The force created between the cathode and anode is minimized by the structure of the lens.

    摘要: Bradbury-Nielson gates for the modulation of beams of charged particles, particularly ion beams in mass spectrometry, have been produced with an adjustable wire spacing down to 0.075 mm or a smaller spacing. The gates are robust, they can be fabricated in less than 3 hours, and the method of production is reproducible. In time-of-flight mass spectrometers, fine wire spacing leads to improvements in mass resolution and modulation rates. Gates that were produced using this new method have been installed in a Hadamard transform time-of-flight mass spectrometer in order to demonstrate their utility.
