Abstract:
A disk drive device is provided with a recording disk, a base member, a bearing unit, and a hub member. In a marking step, unbalance information indicating the displacement of the center of gravity of the hub member with respect to the rotation center of the hub member is acquired, and an information mark containing the unbalance information is applied to at least the hub member or the base member. In an installing and adjustment step, the unbalance information is read form the information mark, and the position for installing the recording disk in an outer cylinder part is determined in accordance with the unbalance information so as to install the recording disk on the hub member.
Abstract:
A credit card-sized card having a rotating magnetic memory therein is disclosed. The card is provided using a laminated structure in which a stainless steel, plastic sandwich structure is employed. An opening in the plastic layer provides space for the rotating magnetic disk. A mechanism is provided to open a shutter when the card is inserted into a reader. Data is written to or read from the disk by positioning heads from an external system into openings in the external surface of the card. When the card is not engaged in a reader, the shutter covers the openings.
Abstract:
An optical pickup angle adjusting mechanism of a beam angle adjusting structure consists of an external screw member and an internal screw part, while the external screw member is formed by integrating a flange engaging part engaging with a chassis to hold the edge of the chassis with two flanges, an external screw portion and a cylindrical press-fit part located between the flange engaging part and the external screw portion and the internal screw part includes a nut fixed to a pickup support part and a press-fit hole formed in the pickup support part coaxially with the nut for receiving the press-fit part in a close contact manner. Thus, a disk drive and a beam angle adjusting structure preventing adjusting screws from jolts can be obtained without increasing the number of components.
Abstract:
An apparatus for testing components to be inserted in a video cassette recorder or digital video cassette recorder includes a base provided with a pair of guide rails, a stationary plate, a first and a pair of second driven plates moving along the guide rails, and a capstan motor holder on which a capstan shaft and a hinge pin are mounted. The pinch roller lever assembly is provided with a pivot arm pivotably mounted to the hinge pin, a pinch roller rotatably mounted on the pivot arm, a lever and a coil spring, wherein one end of the lever is rotatably fixed near the pinch roller on the pivot arm and the other end is provided with a protrusion and a substantial ellipse-shaped ring, both ends of the coil spring are secured to the protrusion of the lever and the boss of the second driven plate, respectively.
Abstract:
A three dimensional optical data storage and retrieval system includes a three dimensional optical data storage medium and an apparatus for providing access to data stored on the medium. According to one aspect of the invention, the data storage medium includes a number of concentric shells each of which has a curvilinear data storage surface for storing data in a number of substantially parallel data tracks. According to another aspect of the invention, the data storage medium includes a number of data storage surfaces which are rotatable about a common axis, each data storage surface for storing data in a number of substantially circular data tracks and having an optically transparent window which transects each of the data tracks. Each shell or data storage surface preferably has a drive engagement portion for engaging a driver to rotate the shells or data storage surfaces individually about a common axis. Several embodiments of spherical and cylindrical shell media are provided and a stacked discs embodiment is disclosed. Apparatus for accessing data on the medium includes a number of drivers for selectively rotating the shells and a laser-optical device. In some embodiments, a portion of the laser-optical device is incorporated in and made part of the outer shell of the medium. A jukebox apparatus is shown as well.
Abstract:
There is described a method of guiding a machine as it moves relative to a surface, which is preferably the surface of a workpiece on which the machine is working, by selectively magnetizing a layer of magnetic material provided at or close to the surface so as to define a path of movement, producing guidance signals during the relative movement by detecting the selective magnetization, and using the guidance signals to automatically guide the relative movement, so that the defined path is followed. Data other than guidance data may be provided on the layer by selective magnetization.
Abstract:
A system for processing digital audio signals. The system includes a digital audio unit configured to provide digital audio data of a first audio track and a second audio track. The first audio track and a second audio track represent different versions of the same piece of music. The system also includes a user control device operable by a user to allow the user to select either a first region or a second region. The digital audio unit is configured to play back audio signals obtained from the first audio track when the first region is selected, and to play back audio signals obtained from the second audio track when the second region is selected.
