摘要： A disc reproducing apparatus comprises a disc holder for receiving a plurality of discs; a disc reproducing section including a turntable for mounting a disc, an optical pickup for reproducing information recorded on the disc, a pickup moving mechanism for moving the optical pickup in the radial direction of the disc; a reproducing section pivoting means for pivoting the reproducing section between a reproducing position and a non-reproducing Position; and a disc transporting means for transporting a disc inserted from the outside to the disc holder. In particular, the disc reproducing section includes a position detecting means for detecting a position of the optical pickup in the reproducing apparatus. Further, when the disc reproducing section is in its non-reproducing position, the position detecting means is adapted to detect the position of a disc which has been transported from the outside into the apparatus.

摘要： A recording and/or reproducing apparatus for a disc-shaped recording medium having a rotary shaft and a driving pin provided at an offset position relative to this driving shaft, the rotary shaft being passed through a rotary shaft inserting opening formed in the disc-shaped recording medium and the driving pin being engaged in a driving pin engagement opening bored in the disc-shaped recording medium to set the rotational position of the disc-shaped recording medium run in rotation to record and/or reproduce information signals. The disc rotating driving unit is driven to displace the position of the driving pin from a position in which the rotary shaft inserting opening and the driving pin engagement opening in the disc-shaped recording medium are disengaged from the rotary shaft and the driving pin, respectively, at a timing when the rotary shaft and the driving pin are not engaged in the rotary shaft inserting opening and the driving pin engagement opening in the disc-shaped recording medium to prohibit the driving pin from overlapping with the rim of the driving pin engagement opening.

摘要： A disk drive has an improved system for detecting the presence of a data-storage cartridge inserted into the drive. The improved system uses a source of polarized light and a detector of polarized light. The detector is optically coupled to the source by a reflective marker on the data-storage cartridge when the data-storage cartridge is inserted into the drive. The reflective marker rotates the polarization angle of the light which is incident upon its reflective surface. The detector is adapted to respond maximally to light that has been phase-rotated in a manner characteristic of the reflective marker. The detector acts in conjunction with an electrical circuit to allow the read/write heads of the disk drive to interface with the data-storage cartridge when the detector registers a maximal response.
