摘要: A light-emitting-device head includes a first light-emitting-device arrangement including light emitting devices arranged in lines extending in a first scanning direction; a second light-emitting-device arrangement including light emitting devices arranged in lines extending in a first scanning direction, the second light-emitting-device arrangement overlapping the first light-emitting-device arrangement in a second scanning direction at least in part; an optical device that forms an electrostatic latent image by focusing light emitted from the light emitting devices on a photoconductor and exposing the photoconductor to the light; and a switching unit that switches the light-emitting-device arrangement to be lit up between the first light-emitting-device arrangement and the second light-emitting-device arrangement at a switching position defined at any position in an overlapping portion where the first light-emitting-device arrangement and the second light-emitting-device arrangement overlap each other. The electrostatic latent image is composed of dots formed by a screening process performed with a screen having a predetermined screen angle. The switching unit defines the switching position such that when points in the electrostatic latent image that coincide with the switching position are connected to one another by a line, the line forms a zigzag shape while overlapping some of the dots, the zigzag shape including a line segment extending at the screen angle.

摘要: A printing assembly for thermal transfer printing is disclosed. The assembly comprises at least one first printing system comprising a transfer member having an imaging surface on the front side, a coating station at which a monolayer of thermoplastic particles is applied to the imaging surface, an imaging station at which electromagnetic radiation (EM) is applied, optionally via the rear side of the transfer member, to selected regions of the imaging surface to render the particles coating the selected regions tacky, a transfer station at which only the regions of the particles coating that have been rendered tacky are transferred to a substrate to form an adhesive image; and at least one more downstream printing system. The transfer member includes on its front side an EM radiation absorbing layer, the imaging surface being formed on, or as part of, the absorbing layer, and on its rear side a body which can optionally be transparent to EM radiation.

摘要: Method and system for thermal transfer printing are disclosed. The system includes a transfer member having an imaging surface on the front side, a coating station at which a monolayer of particles made of, or coated with, a thermoplastic polymer is applied to the imaging surface, an imaging station at which electromagnetic radiation (EM) is applied via the rear side of the transfer member to selected regions of the particles-coated imaging surface to render the particles thereon tacky within the selected regions, and a transfer station at which only the regions of the particles coating that have been rendered tacky are transferred to a substrate. The transfer member includes on its rear side a body transparent to EM radiation and on its front side an EM radiation absorbing layer, the imaging surface being formed on, or as part of, the absorbing layer.

摘要: A method and apparatus for thermal transfer printing onto selected regions of a substrate are disclosed. The method comprises: a) providing a transfer member having an imaging surface; b) coating the imaging surface with particles formed of, or coated with, a thermoplastic polymer; c) removing substantially all particles that are not in direct contact with the imaging surface to leave a uniform monolayer particle coating on the imaging surface; d) applying energy to selected regions of the imaging surface to heat and render tacky particles of corresponding regions of the monolayer coating; and e) pressing at least portions of the imaging surface and the substrate surface against one another, either during and/or after application of energy, to cause transfer to the surface of the substrate of the particles of the corresponding regions that have been rendered tacky. The monolayer coating can be replenished with new particles and the cycle repeated.

摘要: Method and apparatus for coating selected regions of a surface of a substrate with a film are disclosed. A cyclically moveable transfer member has an imaging surface which is coated with individual particles formed of, or coated with a thermoplastic polymer, and substantially all particles that are not in direct contact with the imaging surface are removed so as to leave a uniform monolayer particle coating on the imaging surface. Selected regions of the imaging surface are exposed to radiation to render the particles tacky within the regions, and the coated imaging surface and the substrate are pressed against one another to cause transfer of only the particles rendered tacky in the coating, such that the transferred particles form a film on the substrate. The monolayer on the imaging surface of the transfer member is replenished with fresh thermoplastic particles and the cycle repeats.

摘要: An image forming device includes at least one image forming element moving past an image forming station in which toner is deposited on a surface of the image forming element, which surface is facing the image forming station, said image forming element including a core layer forming a core of the image forming element and including a plurality of tracks comprising electrodes individually connected to corresponding drivers, and a semi-conducting top layer forming the surface of the image forming element, wherein the image forming element further includes an isolating layer in-between the core layer and the semi-conducting top layer, which isolating layer includes a plurality of pads each of which extends over at least one track in a non-overlapping manner, extends towards one underlying track as to form an interconnection with the one underlying track, and is filled with a conducting material in order to let each pad individually be activated by means of the driver of the underlying track in order to adhere toner on a location of the surface of the image forming element, which location corresponds to the underlying activated pad.

摘要: A printer for printing on a semiporous recording medium includes a dryer adapted to dry the semiporous recording medium to a moisture content not to exceed that of the recording medium equilibrated to 20% RH. A liquid-deposition unit deposits hydrophilic liquid in a selected fluid pattern on the recording medium within 15 seconds after the completion of drying. A charging member charges the recording medium so that a charge pattern of charged and discharged areas is formed on the recording medium and the charged areas have a potential of at least 100 V. A development station deposits charged dry ink on the medium, the dry ink having charge of the same sign as the charged areas, so that the charged dry ink is deposited on the paper in a dry ink pattern corresponding to the selected fluid pattern.

摘要: A print engine suitable for printing barcodes and other patterns using charged inks includes a semiconductor memory layer having memory circuits that are coupled to one or more line elements and/or printel cells. The printel cells and line elements either attract or do not attract charged ink based on the data stored in the corresponding memory circuit. The line elements and printel cells may be configured to form a linear barcode or a 2-dimensional barcode. The charged ink may also be electrically conducting and the line elements and printel cells may be configured to form electrical structures such as electrical circuits or antennae. The charged ink may also be electrically semiconducting and by the line elements and printel cells may be configured to form electronic semiconductor devices and circuits.
