Abstract: The invention relates to a projectile (5) with a frangible material, for short-range ammunition. To prevent any significant losses of precision and prevent the internal ballistic loading from being so great that it leads to the destruction of the projectile, it is suggested according to the invention that the projectile (5) consists of a shell (4) made of brass, the shell (4) has, seen in the direction of flight, a front cylindrical receiving space (4a) and a rear cylindrical receiving space (4b), the two receiving spaces (4a, 4b) are arranged coaxially with the longitudinal axis (15) of the projectile and are separated from each other by a partition wall (16), the partition wall (16) forms the floor (18) of the front receiving space (4a), and a core (1) of a frangible material is inserted in the front receiving space (4a), the tip (17) of the core (1) protrudes out of the front receiving space (4a), and at least one predetermined breaking point (2), running around the circumference of the shell (4), is formed in the shell (4) in the region of the partition wall (16).

Abstract: A large caliber, frangible, training projectile imitates, for training purposes, the corresponding tactical projectile. To enable fragmentation of the training projectile at impact, some embodiments of the frangible projectile are partially or entirely made of a material with a lower yield strength than the material used in the counterpart tactical projectile. Some embodiments of the frangible projectile may include portions that are sectioned, welded, or provided with stress risers. Some embodiments of the frangible projectile may include high density particles suspended in a weaker medium. The fragmentation methods may be applied to the overall mass of the projectile, or to a portion of the projectile.

Abstract: A frangible projectile for expelling from an industrial ballistic tool may be formed by a powder metallurgy process. A preferred embodiment of slug consists essentially of compacted and optionally sintered material and comprises up to 35% ferrotungsten in particulate form, up to 3% lubricant, and the balance iron in particulate form with inevitable impurities.

Abstract: A nonlethal long-range bullet designed to be fired from a conventional hipowered rifle or pistol spreads apart on impact, thereby delivering a nonlethal blow to the target. Prior to impact, the inventive bullet maintains its aerodynamic shape. The bullet includes a front section in a forward portion of the bullet, the front section having a tail that extends to a rear portion of the bullet; a solid section in the rear portion of the bullet, the solid section including most of the mass of the bullet and being substantially disposed around the tail; at least two longitudinal scribe lines that extend along the front section and the tail; and at least another two longitudinal scribe lines that extends along the solid section and are aligned with the at least two longitudinal scribe lines, wherein depths of the at least two and at least another two longitudinal scribe lines are such that the bullet maintains shape integrity during flight while readily deploying into a flattened shape upon impact.

Abstract: A mortar bedding or training round has a canister filled with a heavy, dispersible filling and a sidewall that will rupture after firing of the round. The canister sleeve may be dimensioned to provide an expansion gap within the barrel, allowing the canister sidewall to partially expand upon firing, weakening it for subsequent rupture upon leaving the mortar barrel. Such a round can bed a mortar without launching a projectile to a high altitude where it might be detected.

Abstract: This invention relates to novel compositions containing temporary visual indicators and methods for using these compositions. Specifically, this invention relates to a sunscreen composition containing an indicator that is visible when the substance is applied to the skin, but becomes invisible shortly after application. The continued presence of the indicator allows the indicator to be reactivated temporarily to the visible form so that a user can verify the presence of the sunscreen. The visible indicator ensures that the sunscreen is applied evenly and completely to the area to be protected, but becomes invisible so as not to interfere with the action of the sunscreen or discolor the skin.

Abstract: A practice projectile free of any explosive or bursting charge, adapted for shooting from aircraft against ground targets or for other kinds of practice shooting and comprising a hollow shell, a projectile base and a nose portion which engages the shell along a circumferential partition therebetween, wherein the base is a separate part relatively to the shell, whereby a circumferential partition between the base and the shell is formed. The base is fastened to or made integral with a rod or a tube which extends centrally and axially through the shell and is fastened to or made integrally with the nose portion, whereby the rod or tube keeps the projectile together as a unit, and the rod or tube, or a fastening member thereof situated on the nose portion, has a weakened portion which axially is situated approximately at the level of the partition between the shell and the nose portion.

Abstract: A projectile is described, which changes its shape upon impact on a target and thereby reduces the danger of penetration into a living target. The projectile is useful for the identification of individuals in crowds, by filling it with staining material which stains the target upon impact, and may further contain other liquid or gaseous materials, such as tear gas. The projectile of the invention is further useful for different uses, such as for gunfight simulation.
