摘要: An aerial fireworks display device includes a plastic bottle for holding a quantity of combustible liquid, such as diesel fuel, and a one piece plastic lid structure which is threadable onto the bottle and has an open-topped depending well portion in which a quantity of flash powder may be placed. After the flash powder has been placed in the lid well portion a fuse-containing plug structure is snap-fitted into the top end of the lid well. The diesel fuel is poured into the bottle and the lid is screwed onto the bottle so that the flash powder-containing well extends into the bottle interior, and a portion of the fuse extends outwardly through the upper end of the plug structure. The assembled device may then be inverted and placed in a mortar tube for launching.

摘要: A system and method for launching projectiles, such as fireworks projectiles, which explode in the air into a pyrotechnic display. The projectile includes a shell constructed from a binding agent and an explosive additive which explodes the shell into small particles. The explosive additive, which may be nitrocellulose, causes the exploded particles to be rapidly burned and consumed to form lightweight, inert flakes that fall harmlessly to the ground. The projectile is aimed and launched by a launcher to rapidly expel the projectile from a launching tube. Once in the air at a predetermined location in the sky, a fuse inside the projectile operates to detonate the projectile into its intended pyrotechnic display. The fuse is extremely accurate and enables detonation of the projectile at precise altitudes. An electronic control system controls launching and detonation of the projectiles in a precise and repeatable manner. The external geometry of the projectile also is configured so that the projectile tumbles when launched and follows a more predictable, repeatable and accurate path in flight.

摘要: A method of cloud seeding for precipitation enhancement comprises releasing hygroscopic seeding particles from a seeding flare 10. The particles are obtained by burning, in the flare, a pyrotechnic composition which includes, as an oxidizing agent, a compound selected from the group consisting in potassium chlorate and potassium perchlorate. The particles are allowed to enter a suitable cloud formation. The particles act as seeds or nuclei for precipitable water drop formation, thereby to enhance precipitation from the cloud formation.

摘要: A cylindrical metal end cap is formed over one end of a thermoplastic tubular casing. A pyrotechnic detonator is ohmically connected to the end cap via an aperture thereof and includes an electrically activated match. The detonator is soldered to the end cap with a solder ring simultaneously with the insertion of the detonator into the end cap aperture to form a hermetic seal. A thermoplastic end cap is heat welded to the other end of the casing to hermetically seal the pyrotechnic material within the casing. The heat welding occurs at the outer surface of the casing and at a temperature lower than the ignition temperature of the pyrotechnic material in the casing. The position of the match within the casing is selected to cause the pyrotechnic material to burn toward the metal end cap to enhance flash production, different length casings producing different flash intensities.

摘要: A pyrotechnic device having a maximum explosive effect with a minimum quantity of explosive composition. The device is in the form of a polyurethane plastic foam body molded about a firecracker tube. The firecracker tube contains a small explosive composition charge therein and into which a fuse extends. The tube is sealed at each end by packing means. A polyurethane sealant coating is provided over the tube to seal any openings in the tube and any openings in any interface between the tube, the packing means and the fuse. The sealant serves as a good engaging surface to which the body portion of plastic foam will adhere when molded. When completed, the plastic foam body has a predetermined shape, such as cylindrical, generally spherical, or multifaceted.

摘要: An improved pyrotechnic cap capable of being activated by the radiant energy from an adjacent flashlamp. The cap includes a plastic container with a quantity of pyrotechnic composition hermetically sealed therein. Receipt of the described radiant energy causes activation of the composition whereby the cap produces an audible signal of high intensity (e.g. 158 to 164 decibels at 25 centimeters). The improvement comprises adding a desiccant material within the cap's container atop the pyrotechnic composition to absorb any quantities of moisture which might enter the container and adversely affect the cap's operability.
