摘要: A fragmentation casing includes a monolithic tube defined by an alternating axial arrangement of first and second rings. Each first ring is a contiguous ring of fused powder defining spaced-apart first elements of the fused powder and at least one second element of the fused powder joining adjacent ones of the first elements. Each second ring is a contiguous lattice of the fused powder. Each of the first elements is contiguous with a portion of the lattice associated with at least one of the second rings.

摘要: A series of small explosive charges are used to preferentially crack the casing of a warhead to provide for a controlled fragmentation of the warhead. During detonation of the warhead's explosive fill, the casing will break early in the process along predetermined lines resulting in very large fragments that are projected toward the ground and away from innocent civilians. A fragmentation control collar which contacts these charges can be fitted on the outside of existing warheads. An annular liner within the warhead aids in the controlled fragmentation.

摘要: A fragmentation warhead includes a cylindrical fragmenting body, a pair of concentric cylindrical liners within, made of plastic, and an explosive charge disposed within the innermost liner. In one embodiment, one liner provides various “legs” of liner material and the other liner provides various open receptacle areas, into which such legs may come to rest when the liners are slid together and/or rotated relative to one another. Various recessed and/or raised areas of liner material can thus be randomly created by such adjustments, which lead to select fragmentation of the warhead upon detonation.

摘要: The fragmentation or splintering jacket of a projectile or shell is intended to fracture or disintegrate into a plurality of fragments or splinters of a predetermined size by a bursting or explosive charge located within the fragmentation or splintering jacket. This bursting or explosive charge is detonated by a fuze or detonator at a predetermined or desired moment or burst point. This fragmentation or splintering jacket comprises a plurality of rings provided with reference fracture locations. The fragmentation or splintering jacket fractures or breaks along these reference fracture locations into fragments or splinters of the predetermined size.
