    摘要: A catalytic fuel igniter is compatible with internal combustion engines and other chemical fuel operated systems. The catalytic fuel igniter does not require electrical components typically required for such systems, thus reducing complexity. The catalytic fuel igniter includes a catalyst in a controlled environment which ignites the fuel and air at the proper time for engine operation. In one embodiment the fuel is a hydrogen fuel and the catalytic fuel igniter is a hydrogen fuel igniter.

    摘要: A method and apparatus for the ignition of a hydrocarbon gas stream utilizing a hydrogen pre-ignition arrangement. A small volume of hydrogen gas is mixed with air and directed past a platinum containing catalyst, e.g., activated with aluminum and in mesh form to heat the catalyst. A flame is produced and extends away from the catalyst and is directed from the catalyst so that it intersects a hydrocarbon gas stream and ignites the hydrocarbon gas stream at room temperature.

    摘要: An injector for a gas turbine combustor including a catalyst coated surface forming a passage for feed gas flow and a channel for oxidant gas flow establishing an axial gas flow through a flow conditioner disposed at least partially within an inner wall of the injector. The flow conditioner includes a length with an interior passage opening into upstream and downstream ends for passage of the axial gas flow. An interior diameter of the interior passage smoothly reduces and then increases from upstream to downstream ends.

    摘要: An improved catalytic pilot ignition system which utilizes a short-circuited, air-starved, electrochemical cell or battery comprising a metal electrode and an inert electrode, such as zinc and carbon electrodes, or metal-air battery such as a zinc-air battery, which will produce a small but sufficient flow of pure hydrogen gas. When such a battery is short-circuited, the current often rises to a level above that which can be supplied with atmospheric air. When this happens, hydrogen is evolved. The evolution of hydrogen ceases immediately when the short-circuited current is interrupted. If a zinc-air battery is operated without access to the air, any current drawn from the cell will produce hydrogen at the air electrode.

    摘要: A flameless cooking apparatus for use with liquid fuels and for indoor or outdoor use under field operations. The burner exhibits low CO and hydrocarbon emissions and meets standards for burner thermal efficiency when used with JP-8 fuel. The apparatus employs a catalytic burner having among its parts (i) a combustion catalyst; (ii) a conductive surface, e.g., cooking surface; and (iii) in between the catalyst and the conductive surface and in direct physical contact with both surfaces, a heat spreader for conductively transferring heat of combustion from the catalyst to the conductive surface. Also claimed are a method of heat flux and a method of cooking.

    摘要: The amount of heat produced by a catalytic heater is controlled by exposing more or less of the catalytic surface where combustion takes place. Closely fitting covers are manually movedto cover or expose the catalytic surface and the covers may be slid, rotated or moved in segments or in whole toward or away from the combustion surface. Support structures for the movable covers may extend from the spaced walls of a heat shield. Relative movement between the covers and combustion surface may be accomplished by a stationary combustion surface and movable cover or between a stationary cover and movable combustion surface. The combustion surface is improved by covering with a fine mesh screen.
