Abstract: A fastener retaining component may comprise a first elongated member. A length of the first elongated member may be greater than a diameter of a fastener receiving element of a component. The fastener retaining component may further comprise a second elongated member. A length of the second elongated member may be greater than the diameter of the fastener receiving element. The fastener retaining component may be configured to be press-fit within the fastener receiving element such that press-fitting the fastener retaining component, within the fastener receiving element, increases a tension in the fastener retaining component to cause the first elongated member and the second elongated member to engage with an inner surface of the fastener receiving element and to retain a fastener within the fastener receiving element.

Abstract: A bolted connection, e.g., for fastening a cylinder liner and cylinder head to an engine block, includes a long stud having threaded engagement with a hole in the block, an integral flange on the stud situated partly within a counterbore in the block hole but extending above the block surface, a flange on the cylinder liner bearing down on the stud flange, and a nut on the outer end of the stud bearing against a cylinder head which, in turn, clamps the cylinder liner to the block. A compressible gasket may be placed between the block and liner flange, overlying the stud flange.

Abstract: According to the present disclosure, a method for securing a threaded fastener in a threaded hole includes directly applying a locking compound to at least a portion of threads to be mated on either the threaded fastener or the threaded hole. The locking compound includes a substantially pure, non-chromated aluminum pigmented compound suspended in a water-based inorganic binder with temperature resistance in excess of 900 degrees Fahrenheit (about 482 degrees Celsius). The threaded fastener is threaded into the threaded hole after applying the locking compound on the threads to be mated.

Abstract: A lock fastener includes a tubular collar having a plurality of protuberances extending radially inwardly from an inner surface thereof and adapted for cooperating with a bolt to retain the collar thereon. A lock ring surrounds an outer surface of the collar and has an initial inner diameter. Abstract: A temperature-sensitive, deformable cylinder locknut for use in high temperature applications associated with the operation of a gas turbine engine provides a secure fastener lock which resists torsional and vibrational stresses which may otherwise act to unseat and disengage the bolt. The locknut includes an undeformed threaded portion, an unthreaded transitional cylindrical sleeve portion, and a deformable unthreaded cylindrical portion. Abstract: This invention provides a temperature responsive self-locking fastener which includes a threaded shank and a threaded mating element both having approximately equal coefficients of thermal expansion and a temperature responsive locking member having a coefficient of thermal expansion different than that of the threaded shank and the mating element. The locking member expands relative to the threaded shank and the mating element at the operating temperature to prevent disengagement of the locking fastener. At the installation temperature, the locking fastener can be easily installed or removed even after one or more cycles between the operating and the installation temperature.
