An internal gear pump motor having a housing, a pinion and an internal gear rotatably supported in the housing and meshing with each other, and filler piece means located in a space defined between the pinion and internal gear for dividing the space into two regions providing a low pressure region and a high pressure region during operation. The filler piece means includes at least one filler piece floatingly mounted within the space and having portions capable of coming into sliding engagement with tooth crests of the pinion and internal gear respectively in a portion of the space where the distance between the tooth crests of the pinion and internal gear is reduced toward the low pressure region. A stopper pin is secured to the housing operative to engage one end of the filler piece on the side of the low pressure region for restricting the circumferential movement of the filler piece toward the low pressure region. Spring means are associated with the housing for urging the filler piece toward the low pressure region.

An internal-gear fluid-displacement machine, such as a fluid-displacing pump or a fluid-displaced motor includes an internal gear and a spur gear which meshes with the internal gear at a meshing region. A separating body fills a separating region between the gears which narrows toward the meshing region and separates the same from the remainder of the interspace between the gears. An actuating lever is mounted on the housing for pivoting and extends through the interspace, and a piston subjected to the pressure prevailing at the meshing region abuts against a free end of the actuating lever, pressing the same into abutment with that end of the separating body which faces into the remainder of the interspace. A strap connects the separating body to the actuating lever. The axial sides of the separating body have depressions therein which are bounded by narrow sealing projections which converge toward the meshing region.

A hydrostatic gear machine is described which comprises a pair of gear wheels meshing with one another, one of the gear wheels being an internally toothed annular gear wheel and the other an externally toothed pinion, the tooth profile of at least one of said wheels being at least substantially trochoidal; the tooth profile of a first one of the two wheels being defined as being obtained by rolling the first wheel with meshing on the other wheel. The teeth of at least one of said wheels bear the thus defined profile only on a limited zone having a length just sufficient for the ratio of the angles of rotation of the two wheels to be constant throughout rotation of the wheels, and have their profile set back, outside the said limited zone, by a sufficient distance to eliminate contact, outside the limited zone, with the teeth of the other gear wheel.

A stress relief device for a flexible shaft used to connect a rotary drive to a rotary load, wherein the shaft flexes in response to loads that produce bending stresses during shaft rotation. The shaft has a radial flange, or hub, on at least one end for connecting the respective end to another radial flange on either the rotary drive or the rotary load. In order to relieve the joint between the shaft and the hub from the stress concentration that occurs due to flexure of the shaft while being supported in built-in fashion as a cantilever beam, an annular stress relief member is mounted on the shaft inwardly of and tightly secured to the radial flange, or hub. The specially designed stress relief member is tightly positioned around the underlying cylindrical surface portion of the shaft to provide a fixed-end cantilever-type support therefor so that bending stresses occurring due to shaft flexure are more gradually transmitted to and through the stress relief member to avoid stress concentration at the junction of the shaft and the radial flange, or hub.

This invention concerns a hydraulic displacement device, such as an internal gear pump, having an internally toothed gear in mesh with an externally toothed gear, a crescent-shaped land engaging at least some of the tips of unmeshed gear teeth and defining a high pressure zone and a low pressure zone with the position of teeth which are in mesh within the internally toothed gear, and at least one end bearing member engaging the end surfaces of the gears and loaded by liquid from the high pressure zone to engage the adjacent end surfaces of the gears. The present invention provides a means to provide a good fit between the end bearing member and the crescent-shaped land to take up wear at the end surfaces of the gears by providing a spacer member extending from the land parallel to the rotation axes and leaving a shoulder around the land and a hole within the end bearing member to enable it to fit over the spacer member and to engage the end surfaces of the gears, the shoulder of the land being so located that when the bearing member engages the end surfaces of the gears it is very closely spaced from the shoulder whereby as wear takes place the bearing member can move towards the shoulder.

A fluid-pressure device, operated as a pump, motor, or the like, and including cooperating inner and outer gear portions which are angularly movable in relation to one another, is caused to make tight line-contact sealing for entrapped fluid, by way of a plurality of pressure-actuated sealing rollers which exhibit only low levels of friction confined to limited sealing intervals during rotational cycles. In a fluid pump construction, based in part upon a known design in which the inner and outer gear portions have different numbers of teeth and in which the resulting tooth contacts function to prevent fluid leakage between spaced teeth, the outwardly projecting teeth of the inner gear portion are formed by cylindrical rollers radially pressurized into tight rolling line contact with surfaces of the surrounding internally toothed gear portion at selected intervals as the result of commutator-type valving of the fluid-pressures developed by the pump. Manufacturing tolerances are relatively noncritical, because of the dynamic operations of the roller teeth, and the outer gear portion, rollers, and pressure-applying inner gear support structure for the rollers, all possess axial symmetries which enable them to be manufactured conveniently and economically by separations from elongated extrusions, and the like.
