    摘要: An ignition coil assembly adapted to be mounted directly in a plug hole of an internal combustion engine. The coil assembly includes a primary coil and a secondary coil. The spool upon which the secondary coil is wound is cylindrical in shape and has ramp structures provided at each end thereof. The ramps decrease voltage concentration between the secondary and primary windings, decrease the voltage gradient along the end wall of the secondary spool, and minimize adverse effects of gaps created during thermal expansion/contraction.

Conductors (34) are embedded in the substantially rigid body (22). Each of the conductors (34) has a first end (36) in electrical communication with one of the plug wire mounting posts (24) and a second end (38) in electrical communication with one of the terminals (26). The spark plug wire harness (20) to conveys igniting voltage received at the posts (24) from spark plug wires (56) to the terminals (26). The terminals (26) are in electrical contact with spark plugs (44) of the ignition system (50) so that the spark plugs (44) fire in sequence.

    摘要: A distributorless ignition system is provided which includes an ignition coil for firing a pair of first and second spark plugs at the same time. The ignition system includes a changeover switch which, when assuming one operating position, causes the first spark plug to produce negative polarity spark and the second spark plug to produce positive polarity spark and, when assuming another operating position, causes the first spark plug to produce positive polarity spark and the second spark plug to produce negative polarity spark. The operating position of changeover switch is changed every time the number of sparks produced by each of the first and second spark plugs becomes two. By this, the number of negative polarity sparks and the number of positive polarity sparks produced by each of the first and second spark plugs on compression stroke at its corresponding cylinder over a long period of time are the same. This enables the center electrode and ground electrode of each of the first and second spark plugs to wear away equally. An ignition method is also provided.

In this manner, the tip portion of the spark unit cathode electrode is not disposed within a recess or pocket region so as not to tend to accumulate dirt or oil deposits which can tend to foul or otherwise adversely affect the sparking and ignition charactreristics of the spark plug assembly and the operation of the fastener-driving tool.

    摘要: An engine cover with integrated ignition system components that provides a protective enclosure for ignition coils in a distributorless ignition system of an internal combustion engine. The cover serves as a cylinder head cover for sealing over the valve assembly of the engine and for that purpose includes a plastic housing having an upper wall and side walls that extend downwardly to a perimeter mounting surface of the housing. The housing includes a unitary compartment that is located above the upper wall. The ignition coils are mounted within the compartment and are electrically connected via terminals to high voltage leads that are embedded in the upper wall and that extend laterally to a corresponding second group of terminals located at the lower surface of the upper wall. These terminals are positioned so as to electrically connect to the engine spark plugs when the cover is installed on the engine.

    摘要: Durability and lifetime of a resin sealed electronic device is improved by reducing thermal stresses acting on the power element and the parts mounting on the board. A power element of which the protective film on the power element is coated with a polyimide group resin at manufacturing the element is used, and a metallic heat sink of which the reverse side surface (portion of mounting on a board) is not plated is used. Further, a linear expansion coefficient of the molding resin is within a range of 3×10−6/°C. to 17×10−6/°C. The durability and the lifetime of the resin sealed electronic device is improved, because the thermal stresses are reduced by balancing linear expansion coefficients of the parts.
